Vortex SPARC?

I've purchased one for a 10/22 Takedown, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Seems to be built fairly robust.

I purchased it based on the many great reviews I've read online.

Interested to hear other peoples experiences, as well.

considering this is for a 22 and the price why wouldnt you guy go with... or why DIDNT you guys go with a Bushnell trs-25?

im just curious as i was just about to buy one and am wondering if i should go for a spark now that you guys are all talking about it.

just comparing prices at the same store and the Bushnell is about 1/2 the price.
size and function look to be the same.

How is #2 different from the first one?

Better power button location( won't get bumped on as easy), comes with flip up caps instead of the silly bikini and parallax free.

The bushnell is a great red dot and I have a hard time not buying them on the EE when they pop up in the $80 shipped range.
Bushnell is smaller, lighter, sits lower( not always better). It won't get bumped on but it also doesn't have an auto shut off if you forget to turn it off.
The bushnell also only comes with bikini covers and is a bit harder to get flip ups fitted and secured.

Vortex has no questions lifetime warranty so it will be around for as long as you are if you like it.

Anyone using the new SPARC, and care to comment? Considering it for a MKIII target.

Honestly??? I have Aimpoints, Eotechs, Vortex and nearly any other red dot. I like them all but the best one I ever had on my Mark III is what is on it now...the Burris Fastfire III

Seriously, the Sparc is too bulky & heavy on the pistol.

It was the newest one I was thinking of, new for 2014. I've never owned a Vortex scope before but spent some time at their booth at the Sportsman show here in town and was very impressed with what I saw. They offer a no bull$####, no fault, transferable warranty
on all their products, which is impressive in this day and age. The power button problem is mentioned as a minus in all the reviews I've read on the first model. As Can-down notes, this has been improved on the new model. I have a Bushnell spotting scope that's served me well over the years, but I sure like the sounds of that warranty on the Vortex.

Thanks for comparing the specs, wayupnorth. Appreciate it.

Didn't much care for the look of something riding my pistol so I went the Leupold Deltapoint route. Mounted in the rear sight dovetail it makes for a much cleaner look. Cost more than others but works great.

I got a regular SPARC on the 10/22.. Definitely a smaller dot than on the TRS-25. I don't like the expensive batteries it uses, but I ebayed a few replacements so it's a non-issue. Would have loved the improvements that the 2nd generation comes with but at $400 that it would cost here if it's $240US south of the border, that would be a bit rich for my blood.

My favorite photo to post lately! lol I've had it out twice. Once to zero, once to clear some pigeons from a barn. Worked very well both times, I really like it. I've never owned even a decent red dot before this one, but so far so good. Battery seems to great so far, but I ordered a back-up just in case. As for the power button being in a bad position~#1 I don't think it is, and, #2 it automatically shuts itself off after 6 hours if it's left on. Mine is on a .22 bolt action~not going to see any tactical/combat use! Unless you count the pigeon shooting, but they didn't shoot back.

Put the Sparc on my 10/22 last August, been out shooting with it a dozen times or so, and really like it. Clear optics, and I specifically wanted a smaller dot, so the 2MOA dot vs. the 3MOA on most others is a big plus...

It's rugged, held zero in spite of my complete lack of concern about beating up a 10/22.

Have yet to replace the battery, and it came with a spare battery in the box. We'll see how that holds out in the long term because yes, replacement batteries for these are kinda expensive and generally not available at your local corner store - or even Home Depot (which is a good place for reasonable prices on most button style batteries).

The included 2x doubler that comes with it is kinda "meh" - used it to get a good zero, then it's sat in the retail box ever since. It's clear, and no warping around the edges like a lot of add on doublers, but it narrows the field of view a lot, and it's just a carbine 10/22, so magnification to get on target past 50 yards is a bit pointless. It serves the need - a clear aim point for 50 yards and under for quick snap shooting.

I really like it.

Would I get another? I dunno. I'm going to "cheap out" and get a sub $100 red dot the next time I need one, mostly just for comparison. I mostly went with the Sparc because it has such a solid rep for reliability and quality. I was kind of experimenting with the whole concept of Red Dots, I've only ever used scopes or open sights before, so I didn't want to sour myself on the concept of Red Dots by risking getting a crappy one from the get go.

I would consider both too large for a pistol. But if you are limited in funds or dead set on one of these then the trs-25 is definitely smaller and the larger dot is a non-issue for a pistol.

I have both. The Sparc is better but it's twice the price and comes with more stuff - 3 mounting height options and a 2x plus a way smaller dot. Incidentally I ran 500 round through my carbine and I lost one of the little sparc's mounting screws even though it had a generous amount of blue locktite. Just a caveat. Recoil on a 22lr is limited so you wouldn't have a problem, but I was surprised my that 9mm jostled it loose.

The mount on the bushnell is part of the optic, not attached by screws. Mine is on a riser purchased separately to clear the irons on a pistol carbine which did add $40 more to the overall cost of the optic.

Again, I own both. There is no comparison as the vortex is superior. However, the bushnell is great quality and fantastic value.

Just installed the sparc on my markiii target and like it a lot it now weighs more than my .45 shoots well oh ya buy a spare battery as its not a common one forget to shut it off next time no dot
