22 lr ammo shortage

Went to the local Canadian tire to put in an order for 1600 cci mini mags (come in a ammo can for $132) was told they can no longer get them in and could not order it for me, to bad time to ins another source.....

Not gunna lie Im hoarding ammo but im usually unaware that im doing it, I don't go out and buy out a whole shelf at once, I buy a pack when im out mostly out of impulse not remembering how much I actually have, the Canadian tire where I live cant get ammo .22 or anything really, but a Canadian tire that's maybe an hour away has tons in stock and a much larger selection and I've never seen a empty shelf there, but I go to one of the gun shops locally and buy a brick of 555 Winchester for 30 bucks and they say that they have no problem getting .22 ammo at all.

P&D in Edmonton has a fair amount of .22 and .17hmr ammo in stock. I picked up a decent amount of CCI mini mag today at $9 for a box of 100. They wouldn't provide a bulk discount to me. Diane stated that the prices in ammo are going up so much,..it is hard these days to provide discounts on bulk .22, 17HMR or centre fire rounds. They do have plenty of powder, primers and bullets in stock as well with a very good selection.

for what its worth fellas

New liskeard walmart has been sold out the last several times I've driven through.

I was at North Bay C-tire today and they had plenty on the shelves.... I asked the sales kid about possible supply situations and he said he has been told to expect possible supply problems later this year.... take it for what it is worth.. (I bought an extra brick)

ok, i hate to rehash this situation, but this stuffs gettin scarce around here... barely anything in bricks of 22lr and the ones that are out there are the 40-50 buck variety, anyone had similar issues in the southern ontario area?

Been nothing locally at all. Just 17HMR stuff, the odd pack of shorts/quiets. Sometimes theres a lone box of thunderbolts or wild cats. I did get some an hour out of town though. And they didn't seem to be thinking there was an issue at all. I used to see 333 winchester at wally world and CT would have some smattering of CCI but nobody has had anything for a few weeks now, or, we got some people who are running around every day buying up all they can find.

Hard to know for sure what the reasons are for shortages of 22lr in one area , yet stores in other communities have all kinds . In this Province , I have noticed that stores in Border communities seem to be always out , yet the communities father away from the border have all kinds of 22 lr . I suspect that some U.S. citizens are having Canadian friends or family members buy 22 lr in Canada , then take it back to the U.S. for resale at gun shows and through internet sales.......

Interesting concept to be sure, I suppose there really is no way of validating it. I know most of sponsors of this (CGN) site are all out or have dribbles. The net was the best place to order bulk.

I suspect people even here in Canada people are capitalizing on the situation though I've not seen private sales of ammo anywhere (though I don't go looking) so again it's just speculation.

In the end, choot em if you got em!

I think the fine for importing .22 outweighs and risk/reward to cross border shopping. Most border areas like mine people are hyper aware of what you can get across with a nod and a wink and what is gonna have the hammer of god on your ass.

there is still lots of 22 arround if you look. in the last few months i have bought a few bricks of lapua practice, sk standard+ and over 5000 rnds of cci sv. when its there you best buy it because if you go back it will be gone. i generally don't buy bulk hv ammo i look for standard velocity lead not copper washed.

i found some dynapoints at walmart yesterday decently priced at $25.98, however there was a small amount of them on display about 10- 500rd bricks, first i have saw at the 2 walmarts by me for awhile, i got a couple. but i hope its not an ongoing issue, i go through 22lr like crazy.... i think there are some people buying all they can find, but i dont think thats the big issue because everyone is low to none around here, i guess it will be alot of 7.62x39 and x54 shooting this summer for the cheaper kicks..lol
