I just purchased some pinned 20/5 rd steel Ruger mags from a GunNutz subscriber at a hefty price. After some issues with some Gen II polymer mags, I thought my problems were over. Wrong.

Loaded with 5 rds, none of the mags will seat in the rifle on a closed bolt. With the bolt open, all require the M1 forward assist 'slap' to strip and chamber the first round.
My 5d rd Ruger mags will seat on a closed bolt, just requiring a firm push to seat. They will also strip and chamber the top rd without the forward assist M1 "slap".

It would appear that the limit pins were installed a little too high. Did I buy some bum mags?

It is aggravating enough that these mags require pinning in order to be legal, making them difficult to strip and clean. To be sold inoperative mags by a GunNutz subscriber adds to the displeasure.

Sounds like exactly what you said, the rivet is a smidge high which is too bad but fixable maybe talk to buddy and ask him if he will fix them or I am sure you can removed the rivet hog out a wee bit more down the hole but not enough to show the gap at the top when a new rivet is installed I am sure it will not take a lot? but again paying a premium for something that doesn't work sux!!! maybe we should lynch em :nest:

Haven't back from the seller as yet. I've asked him to contact me.

I actually deformed one cartridge in the process of trying to chamber it. That's how much pressure the follower was putting on the cartridge.

Yes, they are 'fixable', but I could have had new pinned mags at the same price. I was trying to save myself taxes and shipping. Lesson learned .....

Do you suppose that the RCMP cars that these *&^%$# pins make normal stripping and cleaning difficult if not impossible? This is not conducive to safe operation and function.

Quit crying and just fix them. I've bought brand new pmags that did the same thing because the importer didn't care enough to pin them to 5.5.
Fact is the guy you bought them from bought them that way, it isn't his fault they were pinned tightly. They are legal and that's all that matters.
It's an easy fix, just do it and go shooting.
Ask the Canadian government for your money back stating that their stupid capacity laws have made your magazines unreliable and haven't made anyone safer.

You're kidding, right? It's nonsensical to have the 5 rd restriction in the first place and you think it's acceptable to have a functioning 4 rd magazine to further reduce the utility of the rifle..... Gimme a break .....

If it feeds 4rnds without issue, then solve for a bad pin job.

The you got stuck like I did.

It isn't a matter of doing the fix. When someone buys pinned mags, whether from a dealer of individual, there is a reasonable assumption that they will function when loaded to capacity.
If I had purchased them from a dealer, I'd be returning them PDQ and questioning if I wanted to do further business with this outfit. If I sell you a mag, it is going to be a functioning magazine or I'd tell you otherwise.

Glad to read that you consider the 5 rd restriction "stupid", serving no useful purpose and not maker Canadian society any safer.

I kid you not. When things don't work right, I try to fix them. If I can't fix them, I see a higher power that can.
I don't recall when I said, live with 4rds, and the law is nonsensical(who said it wasn't?) but it doesn't change the fact that you're having issues with the magazine.
