Budget Scope Ideas Please

I am ready to start outfitting my model 10TR with a scope and thought I would run my questions by the forum members. Seeing as this $600 rifle would be considered a lower-end target rifle I don't want to spend any more than $400 all-in on a scope. I don't plan on shooting any further than 500yards and probably more like 250yards would be the norm. I like the side focus of the Nikon and it generally gets good "bang for the buck" reviews. I will be using a 150g bullet. I have narrowed down my choices to the following:

a) Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 BDC Riflescope $360 all in

b) Redfield Revenge 6-18x44mm AO Accu Range $268 all in

c) Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 $242 all in

If my prices seem low to you it is because I will be buying in the States. I would also appreciate advice on a decent budget pair of rings. In reading the Model 10TR forum it seems to be the consensus that low rings work best for the rail setup.

TIA for your opinions!

You might as well buy a $800 dollar scope up here as that's what it will cost you after the first scope gets confiscated and you have to buy another one.

I will mention the same scope I have mentioned many times before, Pentax.
a 15X30X50 for about $200.
I have a dozen scopes, 2 top of the line. The clarity of my Pentax scopes still surprises me everytime I use them.

They are heavy, and a litle rough around the edges, but great glass.
Not sure why Pentax never cought on as a good scope for the money.

Cheers

I know what you are hinting at there but it wont be a problem.

Smuggling is NOT worth the risk. Raton57 is bang on, if you are caught exporting a ITAR controled item IT WILL NOT be a good day for you...

Also, keep in mind that discussions of illegal activities, such as smuggling, are NOT allowed on the board. You might want to clarify your statement on how this scope purchase in the USA 'won't be a problem'... You must be using an exporter, correct?

As for which scope, I am a fan of the Elite series of scopes. Have you had a look in the EE for a 3200 or 4200 series in the power range you want?

Cheers

Jay, not like you to jump without knowing the whole story!

Maybe the OP is in the USA?

There are also a lot of other things that should be considered. I find people on here lately are getting more like the RCMP every day, must be rubbing off.

JMHO; Wayne

Agreed Wayne, that's why I asked for clarification... As seen in my statement. Could be COMPLETELY on the up & up AND legal... It's just the original post by the op leaves it to readers imagination...

and given that the OP is ein newbsausage it raises flags.

I think the OP is nuts if he goes through all the fooling around when a used Bushy 10x could be his for around $200 on the EE. That's what I would look for if I was building a low-priced tactical rifle.

I apologize for getting peoples fur up on this question. I will post the same question to sniperhide instead where I think there will be less politics and more answers to the actual question. For those of you that did make a scope recommendation.....thx

Nobody's fur would have been ruffled if you had been clear... You didn't even feel it necessary to clear it up with your above post??? Your original post aluded to the fact you intende to buy a scope in the US and it wouldn't be an issue... That's why folks commented... If you had said someone was exporting it for you, which costs $$$, or were mounting it on a gun you used/own Stateside OR SOMETHING like that, we would all be okay with it.

Essentially, folks get into trouble ALL the time because they are NOT aware just how serious the USA takes this issue of ilegally exporting an ITAR controlled item. YOU DO NOT want to ever experience that.

So, ask your question where ever you like, but the responses here were out of concern over your liberty...

Regards
Jay

Ditto!

Had one on my 10TR. Worked great. Only swapped it for a PST because the Bushy sits on my M14 normally.

update:

I picked up a Burris FF 3-9x40 bdc from a Canadian non sponsor this morning for $149.99. The scope has good enough reviews for me and fits into the budget category. Thx to all that pm'd me with suggestions.

$600 for the rifle, and you can't justify as much for the scope? That would buy you what I put on mine. A Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50mm mildot reticle. Why cut corners on a decent shooter?

This scope will be ok for me. i have read several reviews on it and have received numerous recommendations. The thread title is "budget scope ideas please" Your idea of budget is not my idea. I respect your opinion however your opinion is not really on-topic.

If I win the lottery or come into a windfall I may upgrade at a later date but for now I will try the Burris.

Fair enough, but don't get upset if your combo doesn't get sub moa results. It won't be the rifle's fault!
No reason a cheap scope won't shoot well, but there's no guarantee that it will.
