Does anyone make a really fine 7.62X39 bolt action rifle?
Not interested in anything else, nor in a Norinco. I know, they work fine, but that is not what I am looking for this time around.

The only one I am aware of at the moment is the CZ 527 Carbine. Anyone here have one?

Checked out the CZ? It might be kinda what you're looking for. A batch came through a short while back and went like hotcakes.
They're the nicest ones I've seen so far anyway.

Didn't Zastava do a run of 7.62x39 rifles as well? Not sure if that falls into your definition of quality, definitely a step up from some Norincos though.

saw a CZ at a gun show, liked it a lot, my son's talked me out of a bolt action in that cal, don't know why, am kicking my own hiney for not going with my gut ever since! CZ's are a fine rifle! Ok, so I didn't need it, but I wanted it!

Ya know, for a guy that was trimming the herd . . .

Why not (pun intended) get a M-7 or a short action 700, find a reasonably priced, light contour .30 caliber barrel that can be trimmed to 20" or so, and chamber it for 7.62X39. With a .308" bore, the bullet selection for the little rifle would be much better than a .310".:stirthepot2: But if you insist on a .310" bore, I have a few bullets I can send your way.

If it were me, I'd give that CZ 527 a try, and forgo the $5K push feed custom rifle chambered for such a silly cartridge. On reflection, a friend of ours killed a moose with his Ruger 77 so chambered, so maybe its not so silly after all.

Ted I have a 7.62x39 reamer with a 308 pilot and a tapered leade for shooting bulk surplus stuff through takeoff 308 barrels. It's a good way to go if that's your intent.

As a light close range blacktail gun, the CZ is pretty good though a little (IMO) overpriced. I like mine a lot and the kids are starting on it.

My daughter has a Ruger Compact in 7.62x39. Very nice little rifle and will shoot 123gr TSX's into groups very close to .5". The only downside to it is the action is over sized for the cartridge. Well that and the lop is pretty short as well if you're a bigger person.
