What do you do to make them lockable?

I don't get the fascination with ammo cans. I have a Plano plastic one but it's too tiny.

For rifle:

1) Buy plastic boxes from MTM that hold 50 or 100 of your cartridge size
2) Buy $20 locking toolbox from Canadian Tire
3) TADA!

I agree - Best system going, keeps you organised for reloading, easy to stack (even in an ammo can if you must), and easy to label.
I reload for 11 different toys, so it helps keep the empties straight and organised. Load info on inside of lid helps to.

i've found mtm now sell combo boxes in the states for about $25 dollars you can get a plastic ammo can and the plastic ammo boxes for rifle or hand gun.

what I don't understand is why you guys pay for ammo cans at all? Why not talk to a guy in the military and ask him to get you some from his work? then you can get the 5.56 clipped cans, 5.56 belt cans, 7.62 belt cans and so on.

I'll post a X3.. I also got the 'Red Metal lockable' basic tool box from Crappytire and it was on clearance for like $16!.
it works great! there is even a tray on top that you can hold your takedown/sight-in tools or field cleaning supplies that you may require.

heres the 1 I have... http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mastercraft-red-metal-toolbox-19-in-0580836p.html there is also a smaller 1 that's only $19 regular price... as I said, mine just happened to be on clearance.

As dumb as this will sound, these cans are CTAT controlled and are to be returned to the ammo facility on base. Yes, I know that this isn't how the real world works, but this is how it is supposed to. The majority of army guys won't have access to lots of these to give away.

All those work but I was hoping someone had a way where you don't have to drill through the wall and ruin the integrity of the can. I'm thinking if you can find locks long enough to run through the hole of the lid locking latch and the wire handle below it, that that might work.

I used to use plastic ammo boxes but I found that they take up too much room and are a pain to fill so I moved on to ziplock freezer bags, they are tough and have a space for writing your load data on them.

Go to a gun store and buy some MTM ammo cases. They come in 20, 50, and 100 cartridge capacity and cost under $5 each. They last better than the factory ammo boxes that you want to copy.

Store them in metal ammo cans, or not. The ammo cans are offer better portability if you have enough ammo to make it worth while. If you're only loading a little bit at a time, ammo cans arte not worth the effort for you.
