Is it just me or is .22LR hard to find?

unless you have NONE, just QUITE buying it at crazy inflated prices like stocks and houses and you will see that there is no supply and demand problem.. only someone at the top of the 1% food chain making more $$$ based off false information.

The Federal 525 boxes were $21 a year ago .. Now $28 to $34 for the same box.. Not much of a shortage just a bit more expensive.. There is a 17 hmr ammo shortage especially the cheap stuff..

I wonder how long it took the yanks to get a pal?

R

Don't need one. All they need is an Ontario small game licence and say that its for hunting and show ID.
Which kinda pisses me off since the ba$tards buy up so much ammo state side that we can't get any and then when we do finally get some its bought buy a bunch of border hoppers.
ITAR won't allow a single bullet into Canada, but they can bring 2K worth of ammo home....100% BS

Yeah, Wholesale ran out of bulk too. There was still a half decent selection of individual boxes at Cabelas the last time I looked, can't say the same for WSS.
Nope bought a brick at WS today. I think I saw about a dozen or so Winchester left, but there was a fair bit of Remington. :p

damn, me and my big mouth...

You know, as long as we're all busy writing letters, that's another thing we should be pressing the government about. If I'm not mistaken there is a mechanism in the U.S. for friendly countries to be exempted from a lot of the ITAR restrictions. I understand we have Chretien to thank for a taking a pass on Canada being one of the countries on that list. We should try to rectify that.

Sorry about going off topic, but it just hit me when you brought it up. :)

Huh, the 22 shelf was pretty damn empty a little over a week ago...got some shorts for the single shot but there weren't even many individual boxes of LR that day. Maybe transfered a little in?

Exactly... and when you go by some little hole in the wall town... go into the mom and pop stores and by the stuff covered in dust there.

The big box stores can bite my...

I was talking to the guy I get my reloading supplies from and he was saying the 22's are getting really hard to get. He was speaking to a friend of his from the states and they are so scarce, guys were getting $100 a brick!

Does seem to be getting harder... in the GTA had to go out to Mississauga to get some mid-range target stuff. Nothing nearer.

Even the online retailers seems to have little or none, particularly of anything but the most basic bulk. Hmmm.

I had a chat with the owner of a LGS here in Lloyd, an no it's not the other LGS that is a member here. He was saying that out east the issue stems from Quebec. Due to Quebec's language laws any ammunition imported there has to have french labeling on it, and it just so happens that a lot of distributors for eastern Canada are based in QC. How does this make a difference? Ammunition manufacturers are, or have already, stopped retooling their production to produce packaging with French labeling. The manufacturer's are trying to keep up with demand and since the states dosn't speak french they are not wasting the time to constantly re-tool for the french labeling. Out west there are no language laws like in WC, so the production runs that have english only packaging can be shipped up here to the distributors for western Canada. Which is why there is lots of .22LR out west, but cries of a shortage in the east.

It makes sense to me, however this is only what I've heard from 1 person. And not all the "info" spewed from the LGS's can be taken as gospel.

I find 22lr everywhere here in Quebec so I call shens on this.

There's various brand at walmart, canadiantire and my local hunting/outdoors stores. From all I read here the shortage seems to be in Ontario and somewhat out west.

I blame preppers and people that thinks our country and the US are the same and that we're gonna have shortage too and empty the shelves...

Check cabelas.ca they have powder in stock, I just ordered 5lbs of varget for in store free shipping!

Funny thing happened today. I cancelled my 2 lbs varget order from cabela's Tuesday because I had not factored in the ridiculous shipping cost for powder, this was a big downer because I've been looking for this stuff for a little while now. But I went to Canadian tire after work today to buy some Winchester .22lr super X and as I was waiting for the clerk to arrive I saw 2 one pound containers of varget just starring at me...wow! Really?

Nothing has changed here in Hamilton as ammo is plentiful and you can still buy a brick for $25. I have about 2600 rounds of CCI ammo and will keep a minimum of 2500 on hand.

Theres plenty in GTA East. Oshawa and Port Perry, both have multiple caseloads of CCI, Winchester and Remington ammo. No Federal though
