I have a question and it is pretty specific, convoluted and probably undoable also.

Ok so I have a hard time shooting the Elcan C79 that the military provides me. I have a very hard time as I have to get VERY close to get proper eye relief and I find the chin weld very unworkable (seriously did a member of CGC sneak on the acquisition team and decide not to buy cheek risers). So my question is what is a close enough product that I can buy cheap to practice. And buy "a close enough product" I simply mean a scope that will provide close enough eye relief and height to mimic the feel of the C79 scope on my AR pellet gun so I can practice. And although a fan no I am not buying an AR until I can take one in the woods and no I do not have money. I have very little money and am looking for something cheap that can be used simply for practice. Because screw me if I'm buying an Elcan to show off.

Any other advice is very welcome. This seriously worries me as I am a hair above average (read competent lol) with iron sights.

Jesus Christ. I googled Airsoft C79 and one came up on Ali Express for $72.00. Never even though of that, thanks. That should help with the pellet gun practice. And my kid will also have a ton of fun with it as well. Much obliged.
 
I'm not trying to be a ass here, but nothing will beat actual practice. I too hate using the Elcan, and prefer an ACOG or even just using a EoTech (depending on situation). It sucks because we never get enough rounds through work to become truly proficient. If you want to practice with the real thing though, why not ask your CQ/SQ/whatever they may be if you can sign out your rifle for some dry training? Like I said though, not trying to be an ass. If you think using airsoft will help you out then by all means I wish you the best with the practice.

Yeah, thats not going to happen on my RCAF base.
 
Do you have a buddy on base who owns an AR? Throw that airsoft Elcan on his AR and that'd be some good practice, unless the recoil from the AR breaks the fake Elcan, then that's poor craftsmanship.
 
Not trying to be rude, but, have you tried getting set up behind your rifle so that you're comfortable and having the instructor move the C79 back and forward on the rail until you get the best sight picture? From there tighten the wingnuts and re-zero.
 
Who says you have to use the Elcan? Personally, I love the sight but you can always throw your backup iron sight on it and pocket the Elcan. Just don't lose it come turn in time!
