Was messing with my Norinco 14 ( 2009, expert tuned rifle about 300 rds so far no problem) changed scope on my rifle and was sighting it in. After about 30rds, failure to cycle, happened 5 or 6 times then voila! it started cycling and ejecting nice as could be. What the heck happened?Debris in gas port? carbon build up in gas piston?Nothing seemed loose on initial inspection. Going to do detail strip and clean this weekend and was wondering what to look for. Thanks and don't be too harsh, it's probably obvious if you know what you are doing, I don't always:rolleyes:

Reasonable assumption on some kind of interruption of the gas system, especially if it wasn't cycling. Though there is a port for debris to be ejected by cycling action of the gas piston on the bottom, so it's self cleaning....head scratcher. Let us know if you find anything upon your detailed strip.

A gas plug won't re-tighten itself.
Suspect you had a bit of crud in the gas hole or bad ammo. However, a lot depends on what the actually did. Failing to cycle covers a lot. It not feed, eject, extract, have a partial cycle or none of those at all? What ammo?
Mind you, since it's working now, don't fix it. A bath is maintenance.

Yeah mines been acting up, doesn't seem to slam the bolt far enough back to feed or lock after last round. This is an intermittent issue, otherwise :dancingbanana: so I'm not TOO concerned.

Time to clean. I think I'll double check the hole in the barrel, see that it's clear, etc. Piston moves, gas switch is oriented properly, gas plugs tight: time to clean and inspect.

thanks for replies,

Failure to cycle was as follows, Fired round, bolt did not cycle, rack bolt, round ejects , examine fired case, unremarkable, repeat for 2 more rounds, same thing, change from , dare I speak the name.... Norinco ball to some older Portuguese nato ammo, cycles like a charm right away, go through 10 rds, called it a day. I figured the "crud in hole" solution, but had never heard or seen such a thing. Major cleaning this weekend then back to the range. Dirty job but somebodies got to do it!:). The Norinco is cheap, I've got a bunch. I have a USGI Winchester barrel to put on this rifle if the bore goes south, so go easy on the trashing the Norino cheap ammo, okedokey, I know it's not primo, but there's still abit of snow on range so I hate to use brass.
