Hello everyone, I purchased an SL8-4 and am looking for any recommendations through your own personal experience regarding accurate factory ammunition for hunting coyote. I don't yet reload, so am stuck with purchasing factory ammunition.

I won't pull the trigger past 150 yards and have a USO SN3 1.8-10x44 mounted on top. Any recommendations to put me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I have been using Federal Blue box 55 grain soft points with mine and they have worked well, accuracy is good and no issues feeding. I had good luck out to about 250m with it this season.

Yep,

Some good long shots at one of my favorite fields, my SL-8 has really performed well since getting it. Take some time to get used to the trigger, mine breaks really well but I am used to 2 stage triggers.

You will find the SL8 accurate enough with most loads to shoot coyotes well beyond 150m. Supported you should be good out to 400m as long as do look into bullet drop. maybe 500m with heavier match ammo or handloads. Just make sure you pic a bullet with the terminal effect you desire for the yotes.

i zeroed in at 100m with these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/13...mington-55-grain-pointed-soft-point-box-of-20
and had good groups, worthy enough for me to use for hunting coyotees(still havent had the opportunity to nail one yet)

i have just purchased these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/16...tion-223-remington-55-grain-full-metal-jacket
as they were 400 rounds for $200 but not had the chance to try them.
they 'hopefully' wont be off the mark from those above, but will post back when i get to see.

Great, I'll look into the Ballistic Silvertips. Would you happen to know if that Lubalox coating is like a "Moly" where you have to shoot enough to line the barrel with it?

No seasoning of the barrel is required with the Silvertips. I've used them in my RFB (168 grain) for deer and they are fantastic. In my 223, the 50 grain turns groundhogs into fur covered bags of jello. ;-)

Mine shot best with Hornady 55gr v-max and Win 50gr ballistic silvertips. Both shot just over 1moa.
Other than that it was my 60gr handloads using Nosler Varmageddon bullets and CFE223 which shot just under 1moa.

Thanks for all the recommendations everybody! There's a lot for me to try and I'll post back with results. Just another question, regarding some of the SP ammo listed above, are you all loading from the magazine? I ask this because it's a semi-auto, does the cartridge being stripped out the mag and the SP feeding into the chamber, does the SP ammo get banged up at all?

Also, do you gentlemen use a bipod when hunting the coyote with the SL8?

Thanks again with all the helpful information!

I would use a bipod. SP ammo would do better going up the gentle feed ramp of the SL8 than many other semi auto rifles. That said I would opt for polymer tipped ammo just to reduce the deformation.

SP works well, and feeds well, I have never had stoppage with my SL8 and HP but I have with other rifles. I find a bipod is a must for longer shots. I carry a mono pod as well that can be extended to help in snow or deep bush.
