so what kind of rifle is this?

I know the photo is pretty bad but anyone care to guess on the rifle in the photo? I hope to have more info on my great grandfathers regiment etc in the near future. This would be American civil war.

I believe that photo is later than the US Civil War. The uniform and belt are not 1860s period. Suspect that the rifle is a Trapdoor Springfield.

I would agree, I didn't think the uniform looked like civil war period, maybe American Spanish war.
