savage .308 model 99 scope mount issue???

I have recently got a new scope mount an scope for my gun. I got everything put together an went to bore sight it an it wouldn't line up then I found the rear mount is lower then the front so scopes not sitting level. when I picked the mounts up the gun smith said there was only one rear mount because of the tapered back of the gun, has anyone ever ran into this issue before, or know what I should do???

I've seen this many times. The Weaver bases will fit some with no issue, other 99's you have to shim.

Never saw this till now.

This is the reason I go with the old steel Redfield one piece scope mounts.

So I figured out the issue when you buy weaver bases you need #14 on the back an #19 on the front, in the weaver book the gun store said #16 mount for the front an it's too thick!!!

Having said all that, once I had the proper bases, I still had to shim the rear base on my 99.....
