Hi everyone,

I purchased a Savage Model 99F from a friend along with a bunch of other guns. I am trying to find out when it was manufactured. The serial number is 758### (only six digits). The caliber is 300savage. I have seen reference to a marking on the front of the lever boss being the age determining factor. It looks like a 146 in an oval.

It is in good condition. zero rust, good bluing. not drilled for scope mounts. original iron sights.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

It was made mid 1950's.
1957 -58 was when they were drilled and tapped at the factory.
The lever boss code should have a letter, use a magnifying glass and see what it is, and I'll tell what year exactly.

Savage 99 Lever Boss code chart....

A= 1949
B= 1950
C= 1951
D= 1952
E= 1953
F= 1954
G= 1955
H= 1956
I= 1957
J= 1958
K= 1959
L= 1960
M= 1961

Thanks Maddog and Outsider,

On closer inspection it is a G. 1955 it is. I also noticed that there are 4 small screws in the top of the receiver. I can only assume these are actually for a scope mount. I originally thought they were assembly screws not just "place holders"
