looking to get my second black rifle and cant make up my mind. I shoot at my range 90% of the time so restricted vs non isn't to big of a deal to me. but I just wanted to hear your guys thought on which one would be the most fun. also this will b my first 223 as I have a pistol carbine.... so AR or T97

Agree with the others. Never owned an AR, but I did own the T97. Personally, I don't like being restricted to a range with a rifle, but if that is not a concern, AR all the way.

I like a rifle I can take anywhere, plink in the woods, coyote hunt with, etc. so I went with the T97, and so far I really really like it. If AR's weren't restricted, I would have another one.

T97 is a $1000 made in China rifle that should be retailing for $500 based on the poor ergonomics, poor choice for adding optics, and overall quality...by being made in China.
Personally I would never spend that kind of money on one of these.

I have an AR and am waiting on the T97 NRR. AR's really are lego for shooters and can get very expensive, at least with T97 you're kind of limited (but t97.ca builds are a must). There is a lot more to be said for classifications other than range restrictions. Plinking guns are also different from target, hobby or competition guns, so you may want to consider future use.

I have both. I really like my AR. I wish every day it was nonrestricted. But if that's not a concern.
Lately tho my T97 has been getting 100 times as much use because it's nonrestricted. I get a lot more chances to go target shooting up in the woods than chances to go to the range. I'm pleased with the build quality on mine. I was concerned before I got it. Being from china and all. But I was surprised and pleased. It would be nice to see it a couple hundred cheaper. I knew the ergos weren't ideal before I bought it. Thanks to T97.ca/M14.ca things are looking up as far as mods go. Here's mine

Have you owned one? The T97 is a solid piece of kit. That being said, add the FTU to your overall budget and you are competing with US made AR's. Something to keep in mind. The importance of classification to you, that should guide your decision.

Lets see if I can help answer the question , but first lets ask the right question :)
Not which to get BUT which one first ;) - gotta get both don't ya know
Both more fun than going to the dentist

just curious OP - what's the black rifle you mentioned that you have now ?

Haha that's good thought cause your probly right i will want both down the road. So I guess it does come down to which one I want first. I do like the idea of being able to being able to shoot anywhere. But still such a hard decision haha. Oh and I have a Keltech sub 2000. Which has been 100% reliable with 1000s of rounds thru it and I love but Just looking for something in 223 to play with :)

AR if non range shooting isnt an issue. The aftermarket support is second to none, so as mantioned before, if you get bored with what you have just order new parts and you can build a new toy in no time.

The T97 is very restricted to the great quality (but pricey) mods marketed by m14.ca and junk that gives you an optic with a chin weld.

Adding the FTU upper only brings you into competing in the price department. Quality? Not even close.

Wait till you need parts or warranty work. You paid $900 for a disposable rifle.
