Price gouging

I'm jumping in with both feet on the Russian primers that canam are selling. Ordered 5000 each of small and large pistol. Probably order more when funds allow. With a few guys in the family shooting I don't like to reload unless I can put down a few thousand rounds in a session...

I just paid 39.95 a pound for Varget and checked the tag on a pound I bought about 8 months ago 31.95 a pound so a increase of 8.00 which seems to be a little steep IMO.

The hoarding mentality is now taking it's toll. No matter how much retailers charge, someone is going to buy it all and pay whatever ridiculous price charged. Prices will continue to rise until consumers put their foot down and stop buying. I know this won't happen because we all want to shoot, but it is the truth.

Our dollar went down by 10%, the price of powder went up by 15%. The store has the right to charge whatever they want and you have the right to not buy it. It's not rocket science.

The cheapest supplier I found to buy from in Ontario use to charge around $22 for varget last summer, today it says in stock at $29.32 for 1lb . 8lb bottle was around $160 last summer, today in stock at $209.45 . Luckily I stocked up last summer when writing was on the wall for all my powders. But it is getting to a point if not for all the variables that a reloader can change in a round and if you were doing it for cost, the cost of components are slowly approaching manufactured ammo costs. Unless you shoot the big or obscure stuff. Still a fun hobby in itself and hope that prices level out by the time my supply dwindles.

This use to be a 4 hour return trip for me to buy from for the savings. With fuel costs and increase in powder cost those savings are disappearing. They apparently ship now but the shipping was $90 to ship to my area which is not in Timbuktu.

X2 - yet it still seems to be complicated for some.

Those who insist that the one pound of powder they buy every year be cheap and always available locally, always blame the "hoarders" and "gougers" when it isn't. After all, it has to be someone's fault.

Recommended reading is the fable of the "Ant and the Grasshopper". I am the ant - "What shortage?".

Our local store is more than fair... he only raises prices when his costs go up... he is friends with many of his customers... he maintains competitive prices vs large supplier/online delears etc... so I keep putting my money in his pocket.

i found 2 lbs of varget at my canadian tire last week with some CCI magnum rifle primers. I was amazed...32.99$ each lb...it was a incredible fluke tough i'm sure. Not likely to happen again.

Just a sign of the times so we might as well accept it.
Paid 1000 bucks to fill my oil tank Thursday at 117/ l, gas at 137 per litre and a dam stamp now 115
Just think of the shipping costs especially for powder since many will not even accept a shipment that alone is driving the price way up
Bottom line suck it up or find a cheaper hobby like knitting :D
Many just like to complain and they are the ones normally driving the 60K trucks

Be thankful you have a shop to walk into and pick it up in small lots vs living down east where we have to pay like 250 shipping and get one big yearly order . Screw up on that and you are f'ked for a year

I work with a guy who recently bought an $80,000.00 truck that DRINKS diesel, he smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, he has a new $14,000.00 side by side, and he complains about powder prices going up???

Some people need to look at their spending habits, and get their priorities straight!

The Canadian dollar is way down, fuel prices are up, supply and demand means costs for certain things will increase.

Complaining about the fact that powder is up by 10 bucks a jug makes little sense to me.

When I find the powder I need, I just buy it, regardless of the price.

Agree 100%.

Agree 100%.

And here's another one for ya...

The local shop here has no 4350 or Varget in stock and people are complaining, yet there is plenty of H414, 380, 4064, 4320, and other powders that will work just as well in most cases.
Every manual has 10-15 different powder options for any particular caliber, we need to be flexible if necessary and work up new loads with alternate powders.

Any animal shot with 4350, will be just as dead if shot with 4064!

I think a lot of people do under stand that our dollar droped and powder cost wen up, but when sticker price goes from 23 to 50+ Is the issues , yes every one has the choice to pay that or not , but when your a niche store like fire arms . I consider it pretty low to take advantage of the people that keep you in business knowing some one will pay it . 15% price increase of 25$ is 28.50. Say out dollar droped 10c , that's 28.50 up to 31.30 add your few bucks for more profit , still a far cry from double the price like some shops

Just don't buy from the price gougers....and speak up to them when you see their idiotic pricing.

I've had more than one experience with a store dropping their price to price match, IF I spoke up and told them I'd only buy if they did. Nothing to lose really.

Marybe a good excuse to buy a new rifle chambered in something that likes whatever powder you can find lots of at a fair price...
