Took the new 223 for a test drive today. Loaded up some rounds with 50gr vmax. Feat time I loaded 223 so I'm lucky to have found the sweet spot. 100 yards, if you measure the 3 shot group it's 0.36" and if you add the 2 last shots I took it's 0.89" so for those who don't think savages shoot, try again! It was a 11 trophy hunter xp with cheap weaver 3-9x40 scope and accutrigger

I have two savage bolt guns. Both shoot well, but not as good as some of the groups I see posted on this forum. I do get a few groups every once and awhile where the gun shines (and to some extent me as well) but in my case those groups generally aren't counted due to their rarity.

Most Savages do shoot, that's the only thing they have going for them.

Which is all many people worry about. Come to think of it none of us really needs anything more than something that will go bang every time you pull the trigger and have reasonable accuracy. I think we should all get rid of our current rifles and buy Savages in .30-06! :)

Good to know! I just bought a Savage Trophy 111 in 7mm today. I took off the Weaver scope that came with it and installed a Bushnell DOA 600 in it's place. Hopefully I'll be getting good grouping when I get it sighted in.
Good shooting.

I'd like to see the whole target...

The rest of the target was getting it zeroed at 100 yards with 55gr FMJ American Eagle. Once that was close, I brought out the handloads and grouped. Then my little brother went to shoot shooting up a storm (As you can see in the bottom pic, very top of the image theres the edge of there he started shooting)

For someone who said "dont have a 3 shot group" I shot 3, measured then shot 2 more right away.

My savage isn't too bad, the wood and bluing is actually pretty nice, but the bolt lift is on the heavy side, it drives me nuts. Haven't shot it yet as my scope has been on back order for 10 weeks. The clip seems half decent and fairly long, so I should be able to seat my bullets out far enough for an accurate load.
