I drifted away from battle rifles for a while, but I didn't realize how deeply the addiction had taken root until I walked into a local Can Tire yesterday and saw this set of twins waiting to be adopted. Naturally I didn't want to risk my #### falling off so...

I do have a question for anyone who's been shooting these newer 2013s for a while, before I click checkout on the TreelineM14 shopping cart. Has anyone noticed any improvement in the functionality of the rear sites over previous years? On these they seem to be functional so far, but I haven't tried shooting with them yet.

Me and a buddy both bought one. His was fine but mine had most of the usual problems (barrel index a little out, loose op rod guide, mag catch needed sanding and bent op rod). So Chinese quality control is still a crapshoot at best. Having said that mine is way more accurate that his. We had them out at the range last week and had a blast, love those guns. Wish I got the wood stock like you though, looks great.

Thanks Trevor, it was the wood that really hooked me, I just couldn't walk away. They're both properly indexed (as much as my eyeballing can tell) but one has a loose op-rod guide and the other will probably need shimming (if the flip-over trick doesn't work). The triggers are much nicer than the last ones I remember, and the safety is workable with a single finger but not mushy. Half the fun of these rifles is the adjusting and tweaking though, so having them perfect right out of the box would be a bit of a let-down ;)

The rear sight on my M305 does not function very well. Keeps slipping when I try to adjust it down. I've sighted for 100 yards and just left it alone.

I remember the set on an old rifle "self-adjusting" during firing a lot, so that I had to tighten it down to the point it wouldn't move at all just to hold zero. What year is yours?

I have a couple of shims if you need, Pop! After I got one of your old M305's from you I picked up a 22" last fall. My experience with the newer one was as follows. Indexing was very close (within a degree or2 of proper index), sights were okay, but not perfect. They did work but were rough at best, lug engagement was excellent right out of the wrap. Gas lock was TIGHT at 3-4 o'clock and had to be mallet-ed into place. less machining marks than previous, had on small dent/mark on rear part of receiver. op rod guide needed a mild peening and some locktite and its TIGHT now. All said she PINGS like crazy and is a blast to shoot. only limited by my poor eyes!!

Awesome, thanks man :)

I have noticed a step up in the fit 'n finish department, especially things like the flash hider that used to look like someone made them out of clay. I'm probably going to go ahead with some USGI sights anyway, just for peace of mind. Now I just need to get out shooting...

Let me know when you head out, I will try and meet you and we can have some fun! I Changed out that Vortex 2-7 for a 4.5-14x44 and its a lot easier to see further out now! I put some USGI Front/Rear on my 22" but my eyes have gotten worse over the last year or so, so I may have to scope the 22" also. Still fun to shoot with irons, I just can't see too good!! :)

OMG!
Tiger strip, me want.

Oh shoot, that ain't bad.

A couple weeks back I went on a bender and woke up with a Springfield M1A Loaded. When my wife found out I managed to dodge the fry pan but the old lady faked me out and caught me with the rolling pin. I will shoot it when the swelling in my eye goes down and I can see out of it again. Tomochan just got a new LRB. Will his wife kill him quickly and cleanly, or slow and obscenely?

Nice guns!

Some things are worth dying for...........
Looking forward to seeing you guys try the challenge with these fine rigs.
