ORA Precision Rifle Match 1 - Sunday 13 April 2014 Register here!

I am awake and getting ready to drive to Amiens Range for the second day of the PR clinic yesterday was a great time meet gall kinds of new people and putting them through the 200 Yard Rapid follow up match twice each. All good times were had by all. :)

We are back on Amiens today and I really am not confident we will be on Mons Range next Sunday 13 April. So be aware we might very well be on Amiens Range for this match. Someone asked me about the format of the match and I reminded them that we cannot shoot past 500 yards. So you can guess what my answer will be.....:)

Let's get closer but I can say it's forecast for 9 degrees and 90% chance of rain. :D

Bring it on, I say.

Cheers, Barney

Just a reminder to send me a PM or an email to hungry556@rogers.com and let me know that you are coming. I can take entry monies at Amiens Range the morning of the match. :D

Yup, Amiens Range is a GO and we are shooting 200 yards, 300 yards, 400 yards and 500 yards. I'm waiting for someone to ask me when Mons Range will open up.... yuk yuk yuk. Range Control reports that only a couple (read: TWO) of the frames in the butts are poking through the 12' of snow and the melting snow just turns in to ICE accumulating at the bottom of the frames. It is what it is so let's just deal with it.

Cheers and watch over my newbies out there!

Newest Update:

Shooters who attended the PR Clinic of 05/06 April (just this past weekend) can shoot the PR1 Match for FREE as part of your clinic that just past. Yeah, I realize that we cannot use Mons Range (out to 800 yards), so I extend the WELCOME to shoot PR1 Match as PART of your clinic. Hey, it's the least we can do to keep you clinic shooters hungry... hey, that's my handle: Hungry! :D

Yes, we are a go for Amiens Range for Sunday. So if you clinic dudes want to shoot Sunday, let me know by PM (Private Message) here or email: hungry556@rogers.com

Any of you ORA members who want to shoot your Restricted Rifles (read: DM class) are welcome to but ya better have a valid ORA ATT. If you are a 2013 ORA member who has not renewed; your ATT is NFG (no darn good). You cannot bring your restricted rifle since your ATT is not valid if you have NOT paid up. It's that simple. You have been warned. If you are not a paid up member for 2014, I'm sending you home. I'm not joking about this issue. :nest:

If you have paid up and you need a Short Term ATT, let me know right away and we can make this happen for you.

End of recent update. Time to hit the gym and work out...

Cheers,
Barney

Hey hungry,
What is the ground condition at Amiens? Snow covered, soggy but clear? Really curious, gotta bring the right gear to make it a comfortable day. Atmospheric conditions are another thing.

They're calling for rain. CQB the day before is supposed to be sunny and warm ;)

On the weekend it was both soggy and snow/ice covered. The snow will likely be gone by Sunday. I'd expect it to be a little wet still, especially if it does rain.

You check weather week in advanced? There accuracy on tomorrow is as good as a major league batter. Fail 70% of the time and considered to be successful. Never mind one week.

Recent forecast says 80% chance of rain, about 25mm to 30mm of total precipitation. Ground will likely be very soggy. Dress for the 13 to 16 degree temperatures.

Sunday 13 April at Amiens Range for 0700 at the gate. Keep looking for my Gray Tacoma to find me, I'll likely be down in the butts taking registrations.

Cheers and fair winds,

Barney

Does anyone do anything special to prepare their rifle and other gear for shooting in the rain?
I was going to give it a good oil spray and call it done, but I'm open to suggestions.

If you can work thru the wet, then just keep your cartridges and chamber dry. Lunch time is a good time to change clothes, and get ready for the afternoon. Oil sprays won't help when it's pouring out. You will have to strip down your rifle later, and clean it. If I know "hungry", if you can see the target then we're shooting. Only thunderstorms will stop us.

We will shoot through the thunderstorm... :D Honestly, with lightning, we are going to check fire and seek refuge in the portable bldg. I like to coat my entire action in neutral shoe polish or Carnauba paste wax. Nothing wrong with wax coating for us competitive shooters. The wax can only help, and adds a nice smooth finish. Not necessarily tactical but it works.

Yes, this thread will be updated by me everyday especially with respect to the weather. I respect the fact that you have a long (all of you) way to drive.

Now those of you who are not sure (members or non-members, does not matter) if you PM'ed or emailed me; do so again since I'm counting score cards right now.

What makes things confusing for myself is that fact that we/I wanted to extend the welcome of the clinic goers to the PR1 match since we did not complete the 600yard and 800 yard distances for them. I believe it's part of the good will I have control over to cover the backs of the clinic goers. :D

Breech Flag Rule: I will be enforcing this rule. Nope I don't believe in the bolt out rule because of the many missing bolt issues that arise and then we had a situation where certain shooters removed their bolt and then dropped them into the Base Borden SAND  They proceeded to insert their bolts and test their function, scaring people by mistaken "chambering" and "bolting" operations going on in the parking lot. Very bad optics. :(

Still counting score cards and organizing them into piles for all of you super folks!

Now if I could only master Excel, our software program for stats purposes.

Cheers and keep helping them noobies. I will be updating this thread as needed.

I've just returned from an ORA CQB M1 shoot at Langemark Range. Some of you still have not got your renewals in, some of you were a bit late but got the renewal cheque mailed into the Membership Secretary. I am in conversation with ORA council / executive members and I must enforce all necessary guest fees if I don't have your name on their most current membership list.

So I will try and contact you tonight for some of you who are unsure of your membership number (latest renewal sheet is in my hands).

Sunday 0700 gathering at Amiens Range: Bring extra clothes for the afternoon in case your shooting mat gets soggy. Bring extra socks and/or boots for changing into. Comfortable shooters do better than wet soggy shooters. Dry shooters do better than wet shooters. You get the point.

JasonR and ClayR, contact me if you are reading this message. Gotta confirm numbers.

ClayR: I have your ORA number but I need to contact JasonR for the same reason.

Cheers and will try and post an evening update. Charging the radios now.

Hope you guys are ready for some wind tomorrow. 51K winds in the afternoon. Glad the chou brothers pulled off my bedding job in just a few days for my 260. Should make for a fun day.

ORA Precision Rifle Match 1 - Sunday 13 April 2014 Register here!

Lots and lots of rain tonight and all day tomorrow with a high of 16 degrees.

There are a few of you whom I have been trying to contact regarding late renewals and because of this situation, some of you are not paid up; read: no insurance and if you want to shoot tomorrow in all that rain and then driving from where you live; you will have to add the guest fee on top of your match fee.

I am packing my truck before bedding down. If you are not sure feel free to email or PM me here since I will check this means before I depart at around 0600 I the AM.

Cheers, Barney
