rem 700 sps stainless .223 stock modification or replacement?

hello, just aquired this new rifle. noticed the barrel contacting the stock amost all the way down its length.
barrel ( STANDARD contour.)

i have ANOTHER stock i removed from my sps tactical aac-sd with HEAVY BARREL .308 (hogue overmold with pillar bedding)

instead of spending the time modifying my original, would it be acceptable to utilize my other stock? is it an ACCEPTABLE practice to use a stock from a heavy barrel on a standard contour to free float it?
 
Perfectly acceptable.
The donor stock is poorly built too but a bedding job and reinforcing the forend will do wonders.

I have 2 sps's and both the factory stocks are very flimsy. Even if you opened up the channel I think it would still be to flimsy to be as accurate as a solid stock. I believe this why the factory stock is pressure bedded at the front. I have seen guys glass bed the action in these stocks though and it is not too difficult. I have a Choate stock on one of mine built for a bold barrel on a standard contour barrel. It looks a little goofy but its definitely free floating! lol
 
If you use the Hogue stock, you'll have to bed it anyway, but you have two variations of the same rifle. It's not a regular thing to do, but try it anyway. Nothing will be damaged. Mind you, floating a barrel guarantees nothing. Some rifles like it, some do not. The only way to find out of your's does or not is to try it. If it works, fine, if not putting a pressure point in isn't difficult. A heavy barrel's stock channel will just need a bit more bedding material to do it.
Obviously, if the barrel is contacting the stock over the whole length, something is terribly wrong. Some previous owner try to bed the thing? Or are the action screws off centre? Just curious.
