Glock 19 combination lock stuck..

A little background: I have a bunch of combinations locks and they don't all have the same code (Never bothered to synchronize them) so I grabbed my Glock 19 from its case, and turned the numbers to what it always had been for this gun. It didn't open. So at this point I begin to get a little frustrated.. I try other combinations and they don't work either.

So I realized I'm going to have to pry the lock open through other means.. I youtube how to force open a combination lock. I followed the instructions and was able to remove it in less than a minute using only a flat-head screwdriver... This leads me to believe that trigger locks, cable locks you name it are all useless and do nothing to prevent someone from gaining access to this stuff (IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO).
 
What?! I was so certain that these locks were preventing countless tragedies. My whole belief system has now been shaken to its core. What if guns with 4" barrels aren't evil baby-killers? What if AR-15s could be used for hunting? What if Jameson isn't my favorite Whiskey? I don't know what to believe anymore.
 
Some trigger locks I can open with my bare hands with a little wiggling. Cable locks are more of a pain, was shipped a gun once with a one installed on a gun and no key Had to use a dremal tool to cut it but a mid size bolt cuter can do it in a sec. So yes they're just help libs sleep better at night that's about it.
 
HMMMM!! My locks are all 555.. I figure the locks are to keep your kids safe at home and also avoid your non licensed spouse from being charged with unlawful possession..I have had them malfunction and had to break them with Channelock pliers.

IMHO, the only point of trigger locks is to momentarily delay someone from doing something stupid with a firearm when they're upset or not thinking clearly. Hopefully the lock will delay them just enough that they might have time to rethink their actions. It's probably also reasonable as a second level of safety to stop someone unauthorized from accidentally using one in an unsafe manner.

Comprehensive security? Not a chance.

BTW: The regs say that the lock has to be on the firearm, but doesn't say anything about having to make it difficult to open. Is changing 1 digit of a 3-digit code enough to qualify as "locked"? Is just having the trigger lock on, but without code wheels scrambled enough?
 
I bought a combo lock for a handgun that didn't have the factory code on it. It was placed on the handgun to take home. Needless to say, I was outraged and quite frustrated.

Then I sat down at the TV and like above posters said...did the 001, 002, 003

Took less than an hour. 000 was factory, it actually opened at 666! Someone at the factory played a prank with that one.

Ask your local MPP or MP, they'll have all the answers and they always tell the truth. This is actually standard advise for just about any question you may have, I find the government to be populated with up front, honest individuals who are there to help. And they rarely if ever have a personal agenda.






I also have some swamp land in Florida for sale...they use AR's for hunting there if your interested in buying? {:p}

You put the lock on a gun without trying to unlock it first?
 
Technically, the gun store put it on. I just bought it and they packaged it all together for me at the counter.

I was standing there when he put it on. Just one of those things we didn't really look at, he just opened it, locked it on, then spun the numbers. Neither of us thought anything more of it, nor, did we notice it was not factory set to 000 like the instructions say.

Strange isn't it?

Again, to run the entire gamut of possible combinations should not be more than 1-2 hours of work. It seems foreboding at first but really it's not that bad. Just find a show to watch and start turning.
