Well the ins and outs of greasing your bolt roller bearing. Bolt roller should be well grease every time you take it apart or every 1000 rounds. Enough grease should be forced into the bearing to displace the used grease, once you see clean grease coming out the back you are there

The most basic way is to put some grease in your palm and work the roller into it, much like packing an axle bearing by hand.
- Free – cant argue with that
- Very messy and maybe not good for your health
- If you use surgical gloves its not as messy but adds a cost

Handgun cartridge. Fill cartridge, usually a .40, full and jam it on the roller
- Free
- Messy, there is a lot of grease left in the case. If you keep it kicking around you never know what contaminants will get in until the next time you need it. If you throw it out you waste grease (not that that would be a lot)

Bolt Roller Greaser. Much like the handgun case, just fill it up with grease and force it on.
- Cost under $10
- Can be wiped clean with a paper towel or cloth

Bolt Roller Greaser with grease gun attachment
- Cost under $30
- Some what messy
- Lets be honest, unless you are doing 100 bolts, you really do not need one.

or take barney/hungry's advice and get some of the syringes with the extended plastic tip that reaches into the hard to reach spots like the bolt roller area in the op-rod handle, and grease it on the rifle. no muss, no fuss.

I just put a dab of grease on the tip of my finger and press it firmly on the face of the bolt roller, sliding it around to work the grease in. When I'm done there's only a film of grease on the bolt roller face and the tip of my finger. No mess, no tools and gets it done quickly.

The way I keep losing stuff, the finger method works well for me.
Even if I misplaced a pinky, theres still a few more handy :)
And ya cant beat the price.

Good post man

On the topic of the handgun cartridge.... Little trick..... Fill it 3/4 full of hot wax.... Leaves just enough room to fill remaining 1/4 of case with grease ;)
It's all I use now.. I don't even know where my badger ordnance greaser got to.
In past discussions here on this topic I've mentioned using a 45acp case... This is incorrect and a typo on my part. The case is in fact a 40SW

I use a greaser that I got from Brownell's...it's the same as the pink jobbie.

I find it to be a very tight fit over the roller itself, and I have this mental image of pulling off the whole roller assembly when I try to pull off the greaser.

Lets hope when it does go is when your greasing it and not when you're shooting ;)
