Marstarsl Norenco new M14 purchase

Just ordered one from the new batch of M14 GI ChiCom rifles from Marstars at 599 cdn, What a price jump boys and girls. Not complaining could still be a very good buy providing it shoots and cycles.
For those of U that bought from the last batch, how do U like em? Can U at least get 1.5 inch groups off the bench with carefully loaded hand loads? How about scope mounting? what kind of mounts and where can I get one in Canada?
How is the fit and finish of the rifle? I understand this is a battle rifle and it ante no safe queen. Just hopping that it will shoot ok and be safe to shoot.

My 305-B was minute of pie plate. The chamber was fairly generous too. It wouldn't quite close on the 'field' gauge, but it swallowed the 'go' gauge. Well made machinery, but tolerances were pretty loose and not detectable except on paper at 50 yards. Sincerely hoping yours is better.

1.5" groups (I presume you mean at 100 yards) is more than just shooting OK, that would be outstanding accuracy from a low cost, mass produced rifle, and is likely achievable with very few M14s.

I'm about 2 1/2 to 3 inches @ 100 yards fresh out of the box with surplus ammo with my m305 shorty. If you want to use good brass, turn off the gas and jack them out by hand. The action can be pretty hard on good cases.

1.5 doable - my SAI NM and LRB should be there and a number of match-conditioned Norcs also but out of box unlikely

We qualified with M14ens to 500. Just GI issue weapons. We shot at man sized paper targets. Did not care much about group size, just so long as U got a hit on paper or a bull. The guy down in the butts had a long pole with a circle on the tip and he would place the circle over your hit so U could see where your round went. If U got a Maggie's Drawers (complete miss) the stick was waved from side to side. Oh for the good old days when U got to shoot all U wanted the ammo was free and got paid to do it.

I miss those days too...

We had the same setup in the CF with the FNs but only to 300 yards... I vaguely remember catching hell for shooting the pointer when it went up.

I got lucky with my Norinco: I bought it last year at a gun show with a bushnell 6x12 and mount for $400.
When I got it home and took it apart, it looked like it was unfired and dry. On Barney's advice, I greased the dickens out of it and went to the range. After 40 odd rounds, the groups seemed to open up from 4moa to about 8 moa. I discovered that the op rod guide was loose so I did the peening & red locktite trick and now it's giving me 2moa.

I miss my beloved FN but the M305 is a wonderful substitute.

Its my opinion that if you can get a six or seven inch group from a kneeling or sitting position, you should have no problems dropping a deer out to 150 yards in the bush. My Norinco shorty does that. Can't wait for hunting season and to test out some soft points.

I never fail to hit 2L pop bottles @ 100yds with my 305 and iron sights shooting factory 150gr SP ammo. It is completely stock with the only exception being the flash hider which I swapped for one with a bayo lug.

Pretty good for a $400 Chinese rifle and MUCH better then what my $850, American-made Mini-14 could ever hope to match.

Do what I did with mi Mini-14. For under $40, I made my own barrel strut with 6" of conduit tubing and a couple of ncstar tri-rail mounts. It shoots under 2moa all day (when I'm doing my bit right).

Since then I've bought a Gempro scale for accurate powder measurement, upgraded the mount to an ARMS18 and put an old used tasco 2-7x on it that I'm really liking. Hope to get the range in the next couple of weeks to see how things work out.

Hell....even with the flyer that's a fine group from a " POS" Norc LOL
If you take the time, and its a LOT of time, and throw hundreds of different loads down range, and tune up the gun you may well see similar results.
Last week I put 20 different loads thru mine, 100 carefully made rounds, to get ONE decent group to work with further....
Its all about the chase.

Quality apart, a Norc is never going to stand up against an LRB, loaded Springer, these guns can be made to shoot, just takes a while to get there.
Watch the 1.5 MOA challenge cos Im pretty sure there will be a couple of Norcs right up there.

Thanks eaglesnester, I hope you do as well. Watch out for a Hungry Clinic. You'll take your rifle down and rebuild it up nice and tight as ever. I've taken mine to one, it was a 2.5" rifle at best before then.

Guess which shot was number 5. I will always wonder if that was nerves or what. I couldn't believe watching those rounds stack up.

I've don't lots of work with the 223 and I think this spring or summer, I'll answer the question, was it the rifle or me?

These little occasional gems certainly keep us in the hunt even though they may be statistical anomalies. As Lost points out, throw enough rounds down range for careful load development and we are likely to see some results. I am that point where I think those fliers are the result of some combination of insufficient barrel tension, and too cold a barrel. Too much tension however and you get lots of stringing.

My best groups make me keep experimenting and hoping that I can make this the norm rather than once in a thousand rounds. Half the fun is chasing the LRBs and high end builds with my trailer park Norc. Hoping that the spirit of competition on the 1.5 MOA challenge gets me some repeats like my best evah...
