12 ga Barrel Length effect on 3'' magnum loads

I want to purchase a shorter barrel for my Benelli M1 Super 90. I currently have a 28'' and would like to purchase either a 21'' or a 24''. I use it for duck hunting and use 3'' magnum loads. What is the effect on barrel length on velocity and pattern? I'm using a Bushnell Holosight so the longer barrel is not of any use for leading or sighting purposes. If this would have no effect, I would lean toward 21''. Anyone wants to trade his shorter barrel for mine is welcome!

There is no effect on pattern when using identical chokes, and next to no effect on velocity by shortening the barrel. Some sources claim that you might lose 5-10fps per inch, but that number is not verified. The greatest effect is on sighting radius and the swinging characteristics of the shotgun. Short barrels generally do not "point" as well as longer barrels.
