The Viet Cong would have LOVED my SKS!

I don't think the VC had any 16.5" barrelled "Para" model SKS's during the Vietnam conflict. While I was gazing lovingly at my Para Model SKS (with Choate mount and Bushnell TRS-25) last night, I realized how awesome it would have been in the Vietnam bush. The VC apparently used the SKS's heavily in 'Nam, and I'll bet they would have loved the shorter version, red-dot equipped SKS like I have. Even without the TRS-25, I imagine scampering around in the tunnels with a para model would have made life a lot easier. Luckily they did not have them......

I need to figure out how to attach photos for free- 'cause i am a cheap bastard! Unless i am hunting in open country, my Para SKS has taken first place ( over my Savage Weather Warrior 7mm08) as my "go-to" rifle. It just feels perfect in my hands, and given that bush shooting (like in 'Nam) in Nz is rarely over 50 meters - the SKS/Choate/TRS-25 is hard to beat. Did I mention that I love my Para Norc?

I suddenly feel like watch platoon.

I suddenly feel like surfing.

Ok, the VC would have loved the red dot theory but the TRS-25 might not have lasted that long in the jungle. BUT, the VC would love the Choate mount, they probably would have rocked some mosin nagant type optic and would have dedicated their better shooters as snipers. The ability to go "long range" with some optics or revert back to open sights for close quarter battle would have been greatly appreciated by the VC.

I bet the VC would have happily ditched their sh*tty SKS's in exchange for some effective air cover and counter battery fire. ;)

Are Para model sks's restricted in Canada?

Yes, if it's a centerfire semi auto rifle or shotgun, the minimum barrel length is 18.5 inches to be NON-Restricted... Shorter than that & it's Restricted...

For example, the factory length barrel for a Tavor is 18 inches as issued to the troops in Israel... IWI makes the Canadian Tavors with an 18.5 inch barrel so they are Non-Restricted... You know how they say 'every inch counts'... Well, here in Canada, wrt semi auto centerfire long guns, EVERY 1/2 INCH COUNTS!!! Chuckle!!!

Cheers
