The Viet Cong would have LOVED my SKS!

I KNOW!! First I have to get home and take some good photos, then I have to follow the instructions on how to upload (or is it download?) a photo. With any luck I'll have a good photo of my Para SKS posted later today. Included in the photo will be stripper clips loaded to the maximum legal SEVEN rounds. Not quite ten, but better than FIVE....;) I just received a box of Prvi Partizan 123gr (brass cased) factory 7.62x39 soft point ammo- wonder whether this ammo will shoot as good as the Hornady SST ammo? I also have a couple of boxes of Tula hollow points to try as well. Just need the heavy rain to hold off a bit, I can't bear to get my Para SKS wet.....just yet....

... The VC apparently used the SKS's heavily in 'Nam.....

That's not correct. As a son of a former army officer who served 3 tours in Vietnam, I have read and watched a great deal of materials on the Vietnam War to understand what my dad went through.
Although the VC used 'Red rifles' from Mosin Nagant to AK, by far the weapon "used heavily" was the AK. It's also the main reason why the Chinese ditched the SKS after the Vietnam-China war of 1979-1980 when the Vietnamese army, using AK, caused a great deal of Chinese casualties, who were using SKS.

I think it depends on what period of the war.

After the heavy losses of Tet '68 the remaining VC were able to take their pick of available small arms, and by then many if not most of them, at least in the combat units, were probably repurposed NVA anyway.

NVA and Vietcong used every weapon they had available on hand. SKS would have been a premier weapon for them. Before the heavy US involvement and uncertainty of communist victory USSR and China would supply Vietnam with all kind of captured weapons including our own RC Mausers to cover up aid. After the time when communists started to win and it was then there was no need to hide anything and then all the modern stuff started to show up like AK's.

I doubt many would have traded in their select fire AK-47s and PPsh-41s for an SKS, no matter how long the barrel...but the red dot would have seemed like black magic, on that I agree. But for those who were issued one, shorter is better in the jungle I suppose...

But for those 'Cong who were issued regular style SKS's, imagine their joy at having MY Para SKS....so handy. So accurate. And the dot? Christmas come early. Photos to follow!

I suddenly feel like surfing.

Keep yer hats on fellas! I now have some photos, but the Imgur thing does not seem to work on our home computer? Before all y'all start telling me how your amazingly bright 2 year old moose could do the uploadin', just remember that our interweb in rural NZ is VERY slow and mostly ####. It takes a long time to even watch a Van Halen video on that "you tube". Keeps stopping just when I am in full air guitar mode...IN ANY CASE, I will try the Imgur thang at work tommorow. And yes, I did read the Imgur tutorial and it looks easy enough, my photos just don't upload (or download, whatever!) due to the aforementioned reasons. Holy crap, I should just mail everyone a polaroid.

Polaroid? Last time I got one of those it had no gun in the picture. Actually she sent a pic of both of her guns. Well worth the wait. And I bet these pics will be worth it to.

If you use the microsoft phot editir thingy you can expor the pictures to a smaller size such as web large.
This will save you on the upload speed at least. No sence in uploaded 4 meg of pics when 1 meg will do nicely.
Especially if you are on dial up or something like that.
Try Photobucket
