Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone can identify the stock in this album:

Here

I picked up a BYF 44 and it was crammed in this thing. The top handguard was inlet to fit, the rest looks original although it is in very rough shape. It has multiple stock repairs gouges etc. The metal pieces look parkerized to me. On the underside of the grip there is a small stamp it looks like the letters NL in a circle, it's in the second picture but it didn't turn out very well.

Thanks

It looks to be a post war Belgian rework. The butt plate is the give away. They repaired and put a lot of firearms back into working order after the war. That serial number on the side is also similar to their work.

I found an Israeli mauser stock for cheap and used it instead. It looks a bit more correctish. I was looking at the Lever stocks the other day. They are more than what I paid for the rifle :p

Here is a picture of the rifle in the Israeli stock;

Picture of the receiver:

The markings on the receiver are clearly visible but it looks like someone may have buffed it at some time, non original stock bottom metal non matching, looks like someone buffed the bolt as well, I believe it should be blued.. The good news is that the bore is in excellent shape and the bolt is all matching to itself and the receiver. I also added a repro sight hood and a sling. I'm not sure its worth going any further with this rifle. I'll probably keep it as it is and enjoy it as a shooter.

My 954 has a great honking trap-door in the butt, Nabs. Cup-type plate, too, with double-depth trapdoor.

It is a modded 1908 stock, as is the rifle: Imperial German proofs and inspectors' marks on everything and this legend on the side saying that it was made in Brazil.

Would somebody actually tell a FIB?????????

I keep it to remind me of just how very far the Brazilian arms industry has come since I was 10 years old. It is really fantastic when you think about it. They have come from salvaging 50-year-old German junk, all the way to making some of the best firearms you can buy.

I have never seen a Brazilian 1908 with a rippled butt plate. The ripple butt plate is the reason I guess Belgian. They put those on new rifles as well as on refurbs.

It is definitely not a Brazilian 1908 stock but it is off of some sort of South American contract Mauser. I think sail32 is right and it's off a FN 1924. Maybe a Columbian contract stock?

Action is a WW2 Mauser Oberndorf made in 1944. The bolt should be blued. It's nice that the bolt matches the receiver.

I may re-blue the bolt at some time, now that I know it's wrong it will probably annoy me.
