Looking for the options that are available in Canada to build a 9mm AR that uses glock or beretta mags.

Using dedicated lowers or magwell adaptors if they exist. At this point I believe using beretta mags is a definite no.

Yes, these are newbie questions... AR posts are full of acronyms and hard to follow when just starting, it's like learning another language!

Thanks!

As far as I have found there are 3 options currently for Glock Mag AR's, Lone Wolf makes a lower that QuestAR brings in, I think they are out of stock, Double Diamond Law Enforcement makes one but currently no one stocks them in canada, so you would need to use 3rd paty import services like Irunguns or something similar, lastly I think it was Olympic Arms made a Glock lower but they are here in limited numbers and not produced anymore so you knight get lucky on the EE.
If you want to go with Modified UZI mags then you have more options as you can use any standard lower and a mag adapter, as well Hera arms is building UZI mag lowers, I found one at Calgary Shooting Center the other day.
Hope that helps.

Having "been there done that" when it comes to 9mm AR's. The ability to use Glocks mags is the way to go, you can get the 33rd/10 mags which will give you the length of the standard Colt & Uzi 32rd mag.Glock mags are reasonably priced and fairly easy to get, the 10rd Promags are like hen's teeth to find and are expensive, $100 and up. Colt mags are $150 and work the best IMO, but are only 5rd.

So where does this leave us? the 9mm platform with a "mag block" works well, I used the dedicated Hahn block. If you are shooting indoors? or doing lots of training the 9mm makes sense, if not, in IMO it's not worth the expense. Here's pic of something that might be "under production" or on the drawing board. The dedicated 9mm lower that uses the Glock magazine would be the "way to go". YMMV

Yeah I found that image as well, based on the mag well shape and lack of any angle the guess was the NEA lower would be built for Uzi mags and not Glock or pistol mags. This is just a guess, if it were to use Glock mags that would be a fantastic option and something I would run out and purchase right away.

I don't know what mags it uses, however, I don't know why they would go the Uzi route? the 10rd capacity of the Glock mag makes it the most attractive. I was fortunate to have 3 of the 10rd Promags. I had some C-Product 5rd mags, but given the limited capacity it was a waste of time. Good quality mags though.

Thanks for the replies!
I for sure want to stay with glock mags, I don't want to spend big money on hard to find mags.

Really surprised a magwell adaptor for glock is not readily available.

Is it possible to have last round bolt hold open with a glock setup? Or is that why people go to the other mags?

From what I understand the only one that truly have last round bolt hold open is to get the Double Diamond one.
I have heard some people have had bolt hold open working with Lone Wolf but talking with Questar its not supposed to work.

Your best option might be to look at the Just Right Carbine, or the Thureon Defense carbine, they use Glock Mags come as Non Restricted can be converted to restricted if you want a shorter barrel, Last round hold open works.

I found the NEA post you guys were referencing, seems alot of people are waiting for a glock mag option.

I have looked closely at the jr carbine, cx4, sub 2000, Thureon defence and a couple others.

Non-restricted versions give me more shooting options which is a plus.

The jr carbine has the look but seems to be awkward to take apart and lower quality compared to ar versions.
Cx4 is well thought out, reliable, but ugly! If the two moulded sights were gone and just the rail was on top I would be more interested.
Sub 2000, has as many good reviews as bad, not sure what to think of that one.
The Thureon defence looks pretty good, some comments about firing pin failures that have been addressed. Didn't know it had last round bolt hold open.

I like the reliability of the ar, the looks, many custom parts, price is more... Is it worth it? Not sure yet.

Since the AR option for the 9mm will be restricted regardless, you may? want to check out the KRISS, sure it's 45 ACP, however it uses Glock mags and is pretty reliable. With the short barrel you still get that "sub gun" look. If you opt for the longer barrel you are NR, and the price is about the same as a 9mm AR build.

Kriss is nice, but I would like to stay with 9mm.

For me, A quality gun ranks higher than if it is restricted or not.

I checked into the Thureon a bit more... There is a bolt hold open but it is not a last round bolt hold open.

Keep in mind... If you're going to build one and go with a Glock Mag lower, you'll need a specific bolt carrier. The standard 9mm carrier does not fit between the feed lips of the Glock mags. If you find a decent machinist, they can mill it down for you though. Lone Wolf has information on their website about it.

I'm going to put a stock on it. I just didn't have one when I built the lower, so I threw that on there for the time being.

Can you post some close up pics of the upper and lower? Would like to see why there is a charging handle for a blow back style action. Remember newbie here!

The bolt still cycles in the receiver, it just doesn't use the traditional gas system to do so.

You're thinking of a .22 conversion where the bolt doesn't cycle. But with that being said, a .22 conversion still uses a charging handle to cycle the action. It couldn't work otherwise
