how do you tighten it down? is there a spot to torque it down?

damn just ordered one with a different thread pitch but with a thread adapter to make it work
You'll want to use a 1/2" crush washer.
As for tightening it down, there are no flats. I think most people just use two stout hands and some well-crafted grunts. Or a strap wrench
Yes, assuming you want to lengthen the overall length rather than shroud the barrel.
