Norinco 7.62x39mm 122gr FMJ 20rds red box

You are mixed up. The Norinco red box is 7.62x39mm NOT 7.62x54R. Different caliber. And the Norinco red box is non-corrosive.

That's a big whoops on my reply. Didn't notice the x54 on the post I replied to. That being said, the White Box x39 definitely rusted an SKS piston. And the Red Box x39 just the other week seemed to put a very light amount of surface rust (easily removed, no actual damage, no biggie) on a different semi auto's piston. I just treat it as corrosive now and flush it with a 1:10 ballistol mix, which honestly I did before this incident, but forgot the ballistol part of the flush when the rust appeared. Either way, the ammo works just fine, though, and I've never had a dud or problem round. But the White Box x39 was 100% corrosive, or at least certain boxes were. I have the evidence to prove it, and so do others.

How are you shooting x54 out of your sks?
With great difficulty lol.
he didnt have a sks but a SKS
BIG BOOM

Has anyone actually bought this new lot and tried it for corrosiveness?

Do we know at least if it's berdan or boxer primed?

What happened to me was that 10 rds were fired in the sks. Came home to a situation, so the gun was put away and forgot about for just over a month. Brought the gun out, wasn't too concerned because of the non corrosive ammo. I was wrong , the piston was seized in the gas tube and I had broken a cleaning rod trying to get a brush through the barrel. My guns are always kept top notch, but this time one of them got away from me. The original reason for spliting a non corrosive case was because my buddy is not one for cleaning guns.

I only ever cleaned my sks once a month if I remembered, whether it was 1 round or 200 of corrosive ammo, never seized, but then again I did lube it with 2-stroke oil after cleaning :) lol

So the question remains , was this stuff corrosive or not ? Any further updates ?

Can't speak to the 2020 production, but a friend says his factory 311 2019 production is non-corrosive.

I know that doesn't help you, but just pointing it out.

Correction: just texted to say it might say 317 19. His eyes are bad, lol.

I’d say “less” corrosive than surplus. If you clean your gun after each range session with normal methods you’ll be fine. If left for awhile it will start to corrode ever so slowly. I pounded about 2000 rounds of this stuff without cleaning my SKs and after about 6 months of sitting there was some “slight” corrosion.

Did the same with other brands like Barnaul, Tula, LCW(Dominion) and there was no rust… even after a year of sitting nasty.

So… it’s O.K. stiff if yoi keep on top of it.

If I can't make it to clean my gun right after a range trip I always fire 2 rounds of soft point through my gun.
I think that this will help clear out some of the salts left behind by potentially corrosive ammo. Works good for me so far.
I use this stuff in my cz with the soft points as the last 2 rounds .

Interesting idea. Can you share which soft point you use?

Why specifically Soft Point? I've read on a few occasions that ANY non-corrosive rounds shot after corrosive would "clean" the bore. The recommended number of non-corrosive shots would vary from 5 to 10. Personally, I take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, I saw a vid on youtube of a guy saying the same, but he only fired 25 Norinco corrosive surplus followed by 5 Barnaul non-corrosive and let it sit for 6 months.
