Newbie from Kirkland, Quebec
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to this site from Kirkland, Quebec (island of Montreal).
I took my safety course about a year ago, and only received my PAL in the fall - took close to 6 months with COVID slowing things down. I already had a few air rifles, but as soon as my PAL was issued I bought a couple rifles and hit the range. So far I have a Mossberg Plinkster 802 in wood stock, and a Mossberg 4x4 in 30-06 with walnut stock. I've been having fun with these and this spring would like to get into clays with a shotgun. I just purchased a Hunt Group XP2 12GA in black synthetic as a starter gun, but would really like to save up for a nice over-under in wood. This gun comes with a 5-piece choke kit, Skeet - IC - M - IM - F. I wonder, could I shoot slugs using the skeet choke or is that too restrictive? If I need a cylinder bore choke, where could I find one for this gun, are they universal or very brand specific?
I have never hunted before, but love to watch anything/everything related to hunting. I know skinning a real animal would be much different than watching it on TV, but it's an experience I would love to at least participate in once in my life. None of my friends are into hunting, so I may need to make some friends on this site or join a hunting forum. For me, it is not about any trophies, I would like to know that if push comes to shove, I can feed my family. I also like the idea of eating meat that I harvested myself, knowing when it was killed, how fresh it really is, and not be so isolated from the act. Maybe I am all talk though... I might cry like a little girl when faced with Bambi in my sights.
In real life, I am a boring computer programmer. On weekends, I am normally in the woods somewhere on a 4-wheeler, or on my old farm tractor, moving dirt or logs.
Anyway, enough about me. I am going to look through the site as much as possible, see if I can find the answer to my choke question on my own. If someone happens to know, feel free to let me know. If someone in the area is an avid hunter and has any words of wisdom or encouragement, I would also be open to that.
