I am looking for places to shoot in the Alberta wild.
I like walking and hiking, and I'd like to be able to shoot when I go for these walks or hikes.
I am not looking to hunt on these treks, I just wanna plink on some cans or targets.
I have looked over the government website for SRD in Alberta, but I did not find maps for crown land, nor did I find regulations about shooting. ---> www.srd.alberta.ca
Any thoughts on where to find an online map of crown land in Alberta?

the most up to date maps are available from the counties. the ones you are looking for are the land use maps. They outline who ones the land...and if it is crown, grazing, forestry preserve etc. If you know what county your in, you can find some online, or go to maptown and get the most current....then your good to go.

I am in the South East corner of Edmonton (almost at corp. limits) and would like to shoot in Strathcona County or Leduc County as they are right at my doorstep.

Hey Folks,
I haven't had much luck finding places to shoot while hiking.
A friend suggested an indoor range that is close to my place, and it is only 30$ for a day pass (pistol and rifle) and I am going to check it out on Saturday.
I'm still looking for a decent place that I can hike and shoot and remain lawful. I understand that I can get some maps of the local counties and they will have Crown land identified upon them.
I hope to find something soon as range shooting still equals trigger time, but it sure ain't the same as being out in the woods.
I keep thinking that it might be time to move out of the city.

check your local regs, iirc there is a no discharge law in Strathcona county

Just goes to show that due diligence is always required.
My understanding is that I can discharge if I am on private land that is not in an Urban, Hamlet, or Special Control area.
As always, land owner permission is required for access.
I was wrong once before, and I may be wrong now.

Why don't you join a club that has a outdoor range??? I'm a member of CHAS ($70/year. Nobody can beat that) and I always love it when I'm shooting in Genesee range. I understand you also want to do some hiking, and I think there are some trails around it. Hope this helps.

glad i found this thread, i was just looking for somewhere to shoot near edmonton as well being new here its kind of tricky to figure this stuff out at first.
