The opportunity to go to the black rifle forum and debate it there perhaps? In this thread interest is being gauged for a Canadian made 7.62 NATO bullpup rifle.

But since I know this will continue...

Right, now that this is put to bed, back to the point. Who's interested in a 7.62 NATO Canadian made Bullpup?
 
OMG that is Brilliant !! low cost, reliable, easy to find and something OTHER than .223 !!!! I'd love a 7.62x39 !

Make me wonder if permanently fixing the action into the stock, while still being able to break down, make a difference to the powers that be .... just a thought .:D

I've always wondered what the meaning of "integral" is to the word of the law. If it's permanent fixing the action to the stock then that opens up a few possibilities :evil:.

Lol. Considering that RFB & XCR-M are constantly sold out and there's a wait list on the SAPR when it's currently tactical vapour there seems to be a demand for 7.62 NATO (.308) black non restricted rifles in Canada, even at the $2500 and up price point. :cool: Not to mention that ATRS is making a (hopefully) non-restricted .308 black rifle there seems to be room in this market for people to spend their money :D.

In case I wasn't clear if Dlask is looking at moving forward with such a project and going to make a wait list I'd like to be at the top of it ;). I'm in.
 
One concern I have with this talk of 7.62x39 is that quite frankly, it's a toy cartridge. With all this talk of cheap surplus ammo, it pretty much reinforces my view that 7.62x39 is mostly used for shooting beer cans and washing machines. I don't subscribe to the idea that the zombies will rise and we will need all that surplus ammo for fending off the hordes. Nor do I think that Red Dawn will ever happen. Really, if this project turned into an bullpup version of an SKS, well, forget it. At least choose a cartridge that is useful, the .308 is a good choice. At least a .308 you can use for serious hunting. If I needed a Non-Res for hunting pop cans, I would buy an SKS.

Both opinions are correct.
MOST shooters will not drop $2500 to $3000 on any one gun.
But all across Canada, among the 3 or 4 million total shooters, there are easily a couple of hundred willing to do so. Sadly, I'm not one of them.
I might drop $1500 on a cool modern semi, but not 3 large.
 
We have not decided yet.....but too be clear.....we are not going to spend millions of dollars setting up shop for one gun. We would design it....and farm out most of the parts, and build it here. Canada just does not have that type of capability or market to warrant that kind of expense. If we knew we could sell 200 rifles a month....maybe. But 30? No way. We still have a Tavor sitting here that is months in inventory that no one wants to buy. Not sure what all this sold out business is. If you only bring in a handful of guns....of course you are going to be Sold Out.

Well is there a number of people interested that would help you consider building such a rifle?

Of course this would be understood that it would be a Dlask built gun from outsourced parts fot the minimum number of people interested question, not asking you to setup the shop for the gun.

I have seen 7.62 x39 punch through a lot of stuff including 1/4" plate at 100m, it's not a toy cartridge and people hunt with it.
 
my sks can punch clean through 1/2'' thick steel plates with the russian steal cased steel cored round i agree with colin not a toy round, surplus ammo is often max powder.

Without a doubt it's lethal. I have taken deer with my sks in the past. But when I went on my yearly moose hunting trip in northern BC where I had to drive a thousand kilometers then boat in 4 hours I took a $5k custom rig chambered in 308win and another backup rifle prettymuch the same. What I'm saying is the soviet round can kill, but it's not a choice round. You don't see average joe gun enthusiast choosing 7.62x39 over all the other conventional rounds. I did as kind of a lethality test to see for myself. But I had to order special soft points off the Internet to be able to do so. I just couldn't go to the store. Nor could I reload some as prettymuch all their surplus is steel case berdan primed.

308win has significantly more utility to the Canadian shooter. Yes I have and do hunt with 7.62x39. But their all truck hunts 20min from home on animals purely meant for sustenance. As what I believe I am the average gun nut, if I had to drive over an hour to my hunting grounds, or thought I had a chance at an impressive bull/buc whatever. I would instinctively grab a 308 or bigger. See what I'm saying? Yea the soviet round is capable of killing without a doubt. But for Canadians it IS a toy round. 99% of the time it's used for having fun "shootin stuff" in the backwoods. And if a guy is going out to bag a big ole swamp donkey, 7.62x39 won't be the first idea unless he's one of the few red rifle guys.

Besides this gun is probably going to end up being around 3k of they ever decide to make it. No way am I going to spend 3k on a gun that fires an 8 cent round. If your gonna built a strong reliable semi, to have the most market viability and utility for the Canadian gun market. It should be a 308.
