“Idiot scratch” on 1911...Why?

Because of the idiot scratch and the asked price, i have decided to give my Les Baer Premier ll to a friend, i decide what is going on, nowere im ia gone give for :):)nothing my goods, i will give it for love.

Since i am moving to NH, i all ready bought a ruger 454 2,5 inch an AK 47 an a thompson 45 acp, since the EE are not moving much, giving my stuff is a better option, future is not that bright health wise, so i like to make gifts.

Sorry to here of your ill health, But definitely jealous of your new purchases. Hope you get lots of enjoyment out of them.

Ive put the idiot scratch in... if you've never done it before -even watching the youtube videos may not prevent it.

The scratch affects value only as much as the buyer believes. I put a huge scratch on the receiver of a brand new CSA VZ 58 before... ruined my day. Next time at the range... the scratch didnt affect accuracy! Phew!
 
Put me in the "who really cares" camp.

It's like buying a new guitar: you know that sooner or later, you're going to ding or scratch it.

When it happens, it's almost a relief: you can stop worrying now, it's too late.

I agree. I keep my AR's nice and fresh until they get that first wee scratch. Then I can't toss them around in the dirt and not lose sleep.

No idiot scratches on my 1911's, but thats only important for resale value really. I can't bring myself to selling anything I own so a few marks are just personal touches.
 
When I buy a new vehicle, I can't relax until it gets it's first scratch, ding, pit, scrape, etc. After that, it's "meh".
 
Some people buy guns to look at them and some people buy guns to shoot them. The idiot scratch on a 1911 is a thing that would irk some velvet glove wearing museum curator or something I guess...

I wouldn't even notice if there was a scratch on any of mine as they are all pretty scratched up already from actually enjoying them lol
After I unload my Norc 1911 at the range I usually literally toss it on the table. One of my pistol transfer cases is an old steel ammo can with a lock on it. My 1911 is usually trigger locked and bouncing around in there on the way to and from the range.
Same goes for any of my rifles out in the woods. I see guys out at the range with $2K+ Ar's who rub little dust spots off the finish after putting them down on the table hahaha
 
I bought a nice Kimber with an idiot scratch. I handed it over to a guy that's been shooting for decades and ask him to show me how to dissemble and reassemble. He scratched it again and made it worse. Lesson learned.

I have yet to scratch it and plan on re-finishing it eventually. The only issue now is figuring out how to get the scratch out of the matte black inside the trigger guard that my "teacher" left.

On the bright side, I don't think twice about holstering, since the previous owner scratched it.
 
Ok, I have to chime in! I literally have stripped my Wilson CQB (my only 1911) at least 100++ times over the last 12 or so years and guess what, no scratch. You can shoot the crap out of your 1911 for years and accumulate normal marks and wear points WITHOUT the idiot scratch! I don't buy the story that you'll eventually get the mark....my pistol is proof of that. Enjoy the day Gentlemen.

Since a kimber is so low in the food chain, a idiot scratch is no that important.
 
The slide lock install method we were taught in ROTC Weapons Platoon back in the 70s, would cause idiot scratches.

But us cadets did not know any better. Besides the parkerizing on all our weapons (Garands, Thompson sub, BAR, M1 carbine) were so worn out that any additional scratches were unnoticeable.
 
This thread topic is pretty silly. Scratch on your bumper.. why? Scratches on your glasses.. why?

This thread.... WHY? It's pretty obvious why the idiot scratch can happen if you have ever put a 1911 together after taking it apart, it swivels that way. All apologies to the museum curator humans with perfect intuition and fine motor skills, forgive those of us who have marked a gun in such a way, FORGIVE US oh lawd..
