•• 338 Lapua Case Trimming ••

Looking to order a trimmer from Brownells.

Lee - stud cutter and case length gauge with drill
Forster Classic
Redding Micrometer
RCBS manual
Hornady
Lyman

Which do you use and what shell holders? I read a bit about the mix ups with RCBS #14 and Redding #35?
If Im going to spend the money on import I'd like to make sure I have the right parts the first time.
Anyone using the Lee trimmer with success? It's all I use for my AR-15 but I figure the Lapua deserved a little more accuracy...

RCBS manual and take the handle off and use a cordless drill. And get the compound cutter that trims, de burs and chamfers all in one step.

That's the cam lock system that holds the brass by the body? I can't see how that would be "more" accurate.
What if you don't seat it as far every time? What if the case is slightly deformed?

Yeah, the brass is held by the body instead of the base. The holder could end up on different spots on the brass but it doesn't matter since the adjustment screw is always tight against the head of the case. I processed 100 winchester 308 once fired and had almost no variance in trimmed length.

Second the Forester...Mine will take from small base all the way to the .338 Lapua with it's universal base you just have to switch out the mandrels to the correct caliber...Been using the same trimmer since I was a kid at my fathers reloading bench...If you ever need parts the people at Forester in Wisconsin are fast and efficient and as close as your phone.

The Original is what I have...I had to order a new case holder housing and universal case holder as well as the .338 pilot as the classic I have is from the 70's and the large base cases were not in common use back then...Took all of 5 minutes to trade out the inexpensive parts...I would think the new trimmers made by Forster would accommodate the large base cases nowadays.

For the money this trimmer turns out very accurate repeatable results.

Another vote for the Forster set up. Lots of other uses like outside neck turning.

If you just want a shorter case, the lee stuff can work BUT if you want precise and doing a bunch, the forster is what I recommend and use. BUT with the lapua, it is more expensive as you need to buy the base stuff then add parts specific to the Lapua case.

If you are shooting other chamberings, then the investment is easy. otherwise, it can get pricey to set up... but, you will love how it works.

Yea Natchez has the same price and around $97 which includes 6 pilots and 3 collets but their shipping is terrible, I am trying to figure out if I should get the large base model and order a small base for small rifle and pistol or the other way around if it matters, I have an order in to them FO the .338 dies and added 7.62x39 dies but shipping is $47.64 US!!! Will have to check out brownells. Do you know of any other place selling .338 dies?

I found some nice dies at Sinclair, the micrometer seater and FL sizer.
The price was fair so I stopped looking. Finding dies and trimmer, ect in one place is hard enough lol.
Hirsch Precision has a lot of nice stuff.
