I have a bunch of 0.310 123gr GRAF vMax bullets, I have read that these are actually SST bullets, has anyone been able to get confirmation on this? Hornady has not responded yet.

Hornady no longer lists a vMAX in 0.310 but have the 0.310 123gr SST on the list.

Canalure would be sst, no canalure would be vmax

They have a cannalure but someone on a forum, I forget where, said that some vMax had cannalures.

I have a bolt 7.62x39, would load these up for deer at close range if I can confirm that they will not just blow up.

I've only ever seen 55gr 223 vmax with cannelure, which makes sense for the AR and a varmint load.
I had a box of of the 123gr Zmax and they had a cannelure, but green tips.
At 7.62x39 speeds I wouldn't worry about it though on deer either way.
I loaded some 125gr vmax in 308 (downloaded) for a young 12 year old kid and he's dropped several deer with it.

I'm with Hitzy here. At 2000-some FPS, I wouldn't be worried at all with over-expansion on deer, just be sure you don't take sketchy shots, IE steep quartering-aways or "Texas Heart Shots".

The only V-Max in that range with a cannelure I know of is their .300 BLK which is currently not offered with the cannelure as a component bullet. Otherwise the .310 SP and SST both have the cannelure.

While looking something up I found someone who posted a confirmation email from Hornady saying the Graf's V-Max bullets are actually SSTs despite what Graf's called them.

FWIW the Z-Max is just the SST with a green tip.

That is what I found too.

I have an SKS I thought about using some of these in but the Savage bolt gun would be a nice one for my wife to shoot, she is very recoil sensitive and I do not want to push her out of the hunting game by making her shoot something she is not comfortable with.
