.001 copper wire

Done

Well done. I had a cross hair break in a cheap 22 scope one time and had read that a usable replacement was a single strand of nylon filament from your old ladies finest nylons...snuck one out and installed it...it looked good as yours does outside the tube but once the glass was installed, the magnification made that single filament look like a hairy elephant leg...hope yours turns out better!!

Screwing around with an old Mossberg Scope...I broke one of the crosshairs....
I have an old wtr htr gas vlv wonder what size wire is on the coil.
What I was just told...it needs to be thinner that a human hair (0.04 to 0.06 mm)
Maybe someone else will chime in...

I have used unwaxed dental floss... makes a fine cross hair. I used to place 3 of them and have a 300, 400, 500 yard set up in 6 power Lyman scopes. Held in place with nail polish. Holding them stretched snug and square while the glue sets is tricky.

Looks good but that was the easy part. Do you remember how it all goes back together? I have been looking for a parts diagram for you but have failed to find one.

LOL. Laugh2
It's on my "To Do" list...
Getting things together for a range day tomorrow.

Did ya find me a S-108 bracket?

That one from Terry fits perfectly on the 142.

142 receiver OD is .924
152 receiver OD is .998

We use specific titanium scope reticle wire in .0015 and .0005 fur Unertl scopes, copper might be weak but never know.
This .0005 wire is a bit tough to work with lol.

I was thinking of coil magnet wire. (P#5)
But coil or mtr wire has a fiber glass or similar insulation on them.
Not that a guy can't burn that off...
I remember shorting motor wires to tidy up a quad build..and it was a pain.
Would only assume trying to burn off the insulation on .001 would be more of a PIA.

iphone wire was WAY less work.

(not mine, for reference)

Candles work. Clean with fine green scouring pads. Made linear motors with 30awg wire, 3 coils per motor.
Insulation is Polyurethane or varnish.

Burn with candle, hold wire against scrap piece of wood, use 600 -1000 grit sandpaper and turn wire as needed.

If you want to buy some cross hair wire I can probably help you.
I have a few different sizes so drop me a PM.
I repair No.32 scopes among others and have a decent stock of wire.
It might take a day or two for a response as I do not hang on here all the time.
cheers,
