Mags are loaded with 5 rounds and some matches require one 4 round mag. The important thing is to have mags that will seat properly on a closed bolt.

I use 4 LAR mags with solid 3D printed extensions and a PMAG for the 4 rounder so they are visibly different.

Part of the point of these matches is becoming proficient with mag changes.

07-08 June 2014 CFB Petawawa CQB Clinic - It's ON! Register with me here!

Well folks, we are closing in on this weekend.

Chalkriver same he will have the BBQ set up once again. Burger or sausage with a pop for $5. Bring some $5 bills. Always good to support his efforts. :)

Bugs are likely gonna be krazy so bring lots of bug dope and literally cover yerself with the juice. Just ensure yer #### don't fall off with all that DEET. :D

About them magazines; I run a set of proven Magpul gen 2 5/30 units that are all proven under stress and they all close or lock on a forward bolt. That's the part of the clinic that gives me the most laughs and giggles.

I also run another set of LAR 10 rd magazines with the 3D printed magazine extensions made and sold right here on CGNutz by GSDesigns of Guelph, ON. A great product. I will have them available for your perusal at the clinic.

And no you cannot load ten rounds into your LAR magazines. That's cheating so let's not ruin the great spirit of these matches.

Weather is predicting sunny and 21 Celcius so dress properly. Bring lots of spare water.

Any questions? Thoughts ?

Cheers, Barney.

The meeting place will be at bldg. P-141 at 0800.
Come onto base and take the first right onto Somme road , go past the firehall and take the first left .
The bldg. is a large white 5 bay garage .
We will then go to range control and get a vehicle pass for the weekend , its roughly a 8km drive out to Echo range from there.
Bring water and a lunch out with you or if you want you can buy a hotdog & burger with a drink for $5.00.
For the 2nd day you can just drive straight out to Echo range as there is no need to stop at range control.
If anyone requires a map of how to get to Echo range send me a message with your email address .

Packing my butts or target gear in my garage right now. I'm also assembling the necessary targets and charging the radio batteries.
We will have lots of fun.

Cheers, Barney

Great weekend - big thanks to everybody that made it happen!!

Also, I borrowed....then proceeded to steal a buffer from the bearded Montreal fellow (whose name I missed). Does anyone here know his CGN name?

Cheers,
Nelson

Yes, Rugerblast is his handle. If you recall, he travelled with thump_rrr (not sure of the spelling). Thanks nelly250, since Rugerlast was asking if I had seen you around Echo Range shack upon dismissal. :D

We are debriefing this clinic in the Service Rifle forum, under Petawawa CQB clinic, AAR

What a great time....

I plan to attend the next course at Petawawa and I'll be gathering the materials I need over the next few months.

I'll be using an AR-15 with LAR-15 mags. I've got a molle vest coming in soon, just need to figure out what pouches to get for it, and what sort of holster arrangement to go with for the handgun.

For the rifle mags I'm thinking of the Condor Tripple stacker (6 mag), any problems with that?

For the holster, I'll be using either a 1911 or a P226, depending on ammo allowed at the range, I have plastic belt holsters for both. Would it be better to use a molle holster on the vest? or a drop leg holster?

Thanks for any input.

If you stick with CQB, you will evolve your gear as you figure out what works best for you. I took the same approach and started with a bunch of condor gear. In the course of one season, I have replaced pretty much all of it. The condor gear doesn't last very long.

I really like HSGI Taco pouches because they have retention without annoying flaps or bungee tabs over the mags. I switched from a vest to a plate carrier and battle belt. I started with a drop leg blackhawk serpa holster and migrated to a safariland low ride belt holster with QLS. That allows you to quickly swap holsters. If you go with a drop leg, mount it as high as you can and remove the top leg strap, if there are two, so you can get it pretty much on your hip. You will want to try getting in the modified prone position with it on to see how you might need to adjust it.

Molle mounted holsters are ok, but they can't be cross draw or horizontally mounted.

Also, for the LAR mags, I recommend the GS Designs extensions. They make the mags the proper length to use in pouches.

the big thing is to come out with what you have and see what other people are running. You will figure out what works best for you as you try it out and test the limits of your gear. Hopefully that helps.

This is a thread from this past summers clinic. We will be holding another CQB clinic this year as well as other clinics as Hungry likes it in Petawawa ....:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
