1,000 Yard World Record

TYPOS...You have to love them. Haven't seen any volunteer targets for us competitors to shoot V Balls ....Would add a new dimension to working
Butt duty.

Regardless ,a 10 shot sub 3" group at 1000 yrds is spectacular!

Long Range Benchrest and F Class have some things in common , but really are different games.
Not to diminish anyones accomplishments, but unless there is a World Sanctioning Body that keeps standing records ,the title of "World Record"
in any sport is a moot point. Still , he's shot a record that deserves the accolades and recognition and I know that it "just feels good" to accomplish.
I think every shooter who monitors and keeps track of their own personal best, knows what I mean when they break their own "record".

AND Richard and Kris.....NO white suits,no V balls ,however am considering "something" for the range this summer. Just need to find the right "Gun Girl" from the University that has the time off to join me at the matches and help carry the gear.

Gord Ogg

Wow, that is truly incredible… It almost seems impossible, I'd love to see it live.
It's hard to get your head around a shooter and system which is that accurate… Insane shooting…

Besides bragging rights what do records really give you? Say you put all 10 rounds in the same hole do you get a special privileges at your next match? Discounts or sponsorship from manufactures? Just asking, and as mentioned, nice shooting.

For me, personal satisfaction, is the biggest reward in an accomplishement... JP.

Clearly anyone who has ever shot a rifle at distance will understand that this is truly exceptional shooting and worthy of great praise. What I shake my head at is how some people seem to be somewhat dismissive of the achievement - is it an exclusively Canadian thing or is it confined to this sport to pull down the attainments of another ? Comments like Ian's " put enough monkey's on the range" are simply incomprehensible to me.

This is my thinking as well... JP.

I expect this from CGN. IMO it is also why we see good people frequenting CGN less and less.

That is some fine preparation, shooting and gun handling.... awesome.

A big highlight for me while at the Worlds last summer was scoring a shooter at 1000yds in very twitchy air. Was an open shooter, 7mm or 30cal. No clue who it was but for 8 shots, the group was a schnick over 3". After a bit, we just stopped moving the spotter to speed up getting the target in the air.

It was such a thrill to see someone put it all together and just hammer a target.... or more accurately, the spotter.

Maybe it was pure luck that let that happen? Don't care... it did and I was thrilled to have had the best seat in town

Jerry

PS that shooter finished by dropping just 1 point. The group was about 1/3 the size of the targets on either side. Quite a few guys came over to have a look at our target.

Everybody and his brother is going to be running out for a 6mm Dasher. And 105 Bergers and Borden actions. This is why we all should be thanking the BR guys. Without 'em there would be as many match grade components.

It's always nice to see the training and preparation pay off in a big way, no matter what game you're at or what stage you're competing on. Congrats!

Definitely agree with " This is why we all should be thanking the BR guys. Without 'em there would be as many match grade components". It's the BR guys who figured out that Maser 98s or any repeater action was a weak point and developed single shot actions, bushing dies, arbor presses and most accuracy-related klt.

let me try to clarify his thoughts for you,

let me prefice by saying I have some qualifications to make the statement I am about to

I was team captain of the Canadian Benchrest Team for the world benchrest federation from 2005-2012, and president of the Benchrest Shooters Canada for a few years, shot the smallest group at 200 yards at the 2006 or 2007 cannot remember USA nationals in st. louis a .187 (so .094 MOA at 200 yards a screamer no doubt) and other records,

THIS DOES NOT MEAN I KNOW HOW TO SHOOT JUST THAT MY EQUIPMENT IS GOOD,

Team Captain for Vienna in 2007 where our team finished 4th in the world 2 gun 2 yardage (100 and 200)

when shooting a GROUP target at distance one usually picks an aiming point, watches the flags, and when the conditions look like they may hold,

LET HER RIP. well shoot as fast as you CAN HOLD ACCURATELY, AND CYCLE THE GUN AND LET IT RIDE THE BAGS

without talking down to those who accomplish small groups I also shot the smallest group in Canada for benchrest at rosebud a few years ago it was something like .048 at 100 yards, yes less than 13 human hairs taken together for 5 shots with a moving backer)

so small group like the ones I have shot in competition are or can be characterized as FLUKES yes everything goes well and the group forms nicely,

but the trained monkeys is correct, and to be more precise, you can fit about 22 different bullets into a group that is .200 with a 6mm bullet, so one does not know precisely where the group may form from bullet to bullet, and try that with a group less than .100

in a USA national championship where there may be over 1300 individual groups (5 shot iwth moving backers)

THERE IS BOUND TO BE A FEW FLUKES THAT GET UP TO 3 OR 4 BULLETS IN LITERALLY ONE HOLE, many many times over,

if they only measured 3 to a group there would be hundreds in the nationals that qualify for under .075 of an inch at 100 yards,

so to put it simply

I PERSANALLY SHOOT ABOUT A DOZEN GROUP OR SO EACH USA NATIONALS THAT COULD QUALIFY FOR A WORLD RECORD IF THAT DAMN LAST BULLET WOULD GO IN,

and that is what was meant by the quote you seem to not understand,

please excuse the spelling and I wish I could post pictures but the group guys and gals know what I am refering to,

tomochan shoots f-class quite well and Ian shoots prine very well and I seem to do niether at times,

in any event I fully understand the comment and there was nothing disrespectful in either its wording or its meaning

please enjoy the day

I too wish to learn f-class to expand my horizon and shooting pleasure

Hi Jeff - thanks for taking the time to clarify. I understand what was being said much better now. Pleased also that you think I shoot F Class quite well LOL ! See you in Kamloops later in the year I hope :)

Cheers,

Bob
