hey, I have a henry h001 lever action 22lr and I freaking LOVE it, great rifle and I hunt rats with it some nights... the problem with hunting rats at night is that as soon as you turn on the light they scatter and you have VERY little time to get your sights aligned and fire... i have tried my savage mk2 at hunting rats also, its also very good other than its slow cycle the action compared to the lever action... but i like having the scope cause its so fast at getting on target... no messing around with trying to get 2 sights and a moving target all lined up... but a 3-9 power scope even on 3X is still way to close for me, i was in wholesale sports and tried a few different scopes and found the bushnell banner 1.5-4.5 and it seams just right for what i need and the price is right at just about 100 bucks.... i went home and looked around a bit more and found they also make a 1-4 that has a wider FOV so im gonna check that one out if they have it in stock. but im open to suggestions for other scopes that you think will fit my needs. so lets hear what you guys have to say... anything in the 1-4 or 1-6 range is fine, even a 2-7 would be ok, but i would prefer the true 1 power or as close to it as i can get... and nothing over 200 bucks, i know you get what you pay for, but im not sticking a $600 leuplod on it... (although that didn't stop me from fondling them in the store :D ) although, i gotta say, the "size" of the leupold compared to the bushnell is way smaller and i think is a MUCH "nicer" looking scope... (not glass quality, just the "look" of the scope on the outside...) the henry is a small rifle so if i put a "regular" sized scope on it, its gonna look stupid, so im looking for a small compact scope so the ratio of scope too rifle looks right... ( if that even makes sence lol...)

anyways, enough rambling, lets hear what you guys have to say...

thanks

For a bit more I really enjoy the leupold shot gun muzzle loader 1-4's. The heavy duplex is nice to cut through the darkness with a nice thick crosshair but the turkey plex is great with the center circle. Really nice scopes, I've used them on shotguns, 357 lever and bolt guns and my Henry 22

I have a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 Rimfire on my H001. They go for $190 or $210 (Can't remember just now) + tax + blah blah, so at the top end of your budget. Considering the use you have for it it may be worth it to have the Vortex warranty should one of those pesky rats sweep your feet up from under you and your scope goes crashing into the ground. ;)

The glass is great on it, and the parallax is set at 50 yards on 7x (at 2x parallax doesn't seem to be present at all).

I'm very happy with this scope, and can't imagine wanting anything more for my Henry.

Thanks,
Cal.

Ordered a sightron 2-7 x 33 off 4scopes.com and was extremely impressed. It is probably along the same lines as the vortex 2-7 scope. After buying a 8-32 sightron scope I was so impressed I am probably a little bit brand myopic now.:)

A bushnell trs 25 sounds perfect for what you need.
Weaver V3 is a good budget small scope if you can find one.
There is a Leupold VX3 1.5-4 on the EE but it's over $200
If you want the best accuracy under 100 yards it's good to have a rimfire scope or an adjustable objective but most AO models are large.
