1/4 x 30 Tap

I'm looking for a tap 1/4 x 30 to buy borrow or rent. The hole for the hammer screw in my 1886 needs to be chased. If anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.

Not in Canada, but another useful source is Victor Machinery in NY State. I see they have over a dozen 1/4" taps in oddball pitches, from 16 TPI to 80 (!!) I've bought adjustable reamers from them. Not top-of-the-line quality perhaps but certainly OK. Brownells also lists a 1/4-30, although it's $25.00.

Yes... I forgot about them. I think many years ago they made up a tap or die for me in 5/8-27 (5/8" UF) which is universally - but inexplicably, IMHO - used for microphone stands- and probably not much else. One I got from Acklands, as I recall, and the other from Taylor. (Still have them. so if anyone has a mic stand with a stripped thread, come on over.)

As a machinist, I've never encountered a 1/4-30 tap nor matching die. It will not be easily available, its a non standard thread.
