So I've decided that I need a 1-4x scope for my AR, but for the shooting I do at this time I do not want to spend more than $500. Yes I know the old saying "buy once cry once", however I do not shoot three gun matches, CQB matches nor do I plan on taking this optic into combat; I just want a decent 1-4x scope at his time.

Looking around, I see Bushnell's AR series, Millet's DMR, Burris' offerings and Vortex's Crossfire II. My question is can anyone who owns one of these scopes comment on them? What do you like, not like etc? Which, if any, are a complete waste of money and which might be a surprisingly good optic for the money?

If I have missed any decent 1-4x scopes that you might be able to comment on; please do!

Cheers.

Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4 20 mm I have the firedot one but the one without is 400ish

Looks like a great scope; this may be the one.

Where are you seeing them in stock and for ~$400?

I'm only seeing $650-$700 range and none to be found in Canada.

What's the cheapest around for the firedot illuminated version? Best I've seen is $650. Interested in this as it seems that be really lightweight at 9.6oz. Most of these low mag scopes are over 15oz.

They are indeed light. I put one on my Ruger 77/357 with a trimmed stock and I've got a rifle that weighs under 6 lbs loaded.
About the prices, I don't know. I got the illuminated model from Italian Sporting Goods for $690 (tax in, after discounts). It was the last one in stock at the time.
I love the scope.

I too have the Mark AR mod 1 firedot scope on my 20" AR. If I were to buy another one I wouldn't bother with the firedot. Even on the brightest setting it is almost impossible to see except on very dull days.

Auggie D.

the firedot is not meant to be seen on bright days when you can clearly see the reticle.
Whereas in dark deep bush (or building), on a cloudy day, it shows you where the bullet will go.
I guess some "operators" lack the field experience.

I've got a Bushnell AR223, 1-4X. After I got it, had a hard time zeroing it on the range. After a little more investigation I realized the barrel adjustments were no longer clicking. Then I realized that both were never tightened by the factory, and I could just unscrew both barrels all the way out of the scope body. Sent it back for repairs, and a month later it arrived back. Had it at the range last weekend. On the 4X its accurate to 50 years, but at 100, its impossible to bullseye anything even using a sandbag. Elevation is within 2" but horizontally the shots are hitting as wide as the target paper. At least I got it on sale, and didn't pay full price for it.

Mine tracked fine but I didn't realise that it weighed as much as a brick until it arrived.
Plenty of fisheye on the edges of view.
In the end it made my AR very top heavy so I sold it.
This scope and the PEPR mount are the most overrated pieces of crap out there.
Aero precision lightweight mount + Mark AR = 3 ounces less then the Bushy alone.
