Best bang for the buck is the Hi-Lux CMR from Wolverine.
Great glass, great turrets with zero-stop, great reticle (illuminated), lifetime warranty.
Wolverine is only showing the AK reticle version in stock right now but for just over $400 these are great scopes (I have 2 of them and they kick the hell out of any similar Bushnell).

If you're willing to spend more I like the Sightron 1-7.
I'm not a fan of Vortex optics until you get to the PST gen 2 or the Razor series. Too many warranty issues with their older and lower end stuff. I do have a gen 1 PST 1-4 on my 17HMR semi and it's been a great little scope but the PST 6-24 I had was weird and should have been sent back for warranty, zero drifted around (sold it), and my 4-16 holds zero fine but the magnification ring has gotten very stiff to turn and should probably be sent back for repair. Haven't tried a Strike Eagle yet but people seem to be happy with them.
I would stay away from Bushnell, I traded AR's with a guy at the range one afternoon and he had a Bushnell AR 1-4 and my rifle had my Elcan Specter 1/4, he didn't want to trade back and I couldn't wait to hand his back. I realize those are completely opposite ends of the spectrum but it was like watching TV in low definition then changing to an HD channel. You don't realize how bad the glass is until you look through something good. I had a similar experience with a Bushnell 2.5-16 Elite 6500 and one of my Sightron scopes, I sold the Bushnell shortly after and swore to never waste my money on them again.
If you can't afford quality optics I would just buy a set of Magpul MBUS and run them until you've saved up enough to buy something good. You'll just end up upgrading later and losing money on the cheap glass when you get rid of it.
