1-4x Black Rifle scope musings/frustrations

Order ACOG's directly from Police Ordnance. Last year the TA31F was restricted. Since the US upgrade to the RCO models, TA31F is now available, I got a price quote a month ago.

The TA33R is not restricted and in some ways is better for closer in work than the TA31F.
 
I had no problem getting my Leupold Mark 4 from wolverine supplies. I'm not sure if they have anymore in stock. It's a great piece of glass but if I had the money I would get the S&B for sure. it took a little adjusting t get used to the 1.5 adjustment when shooting targets at close range.
 
The S&B shortdot is overpriced. If you are putting your life on the line behind one, go for it. If not, I'd go Nightforce.
If you shoot up to 300m, you should really consider the 2.5x10 NXS

BDCs are over rated and generally suck.
 
US Optics SN4S is virtually custom built, and depending on the dollar, may be in your range (if it's still available to us dangerous militants), I believe ATR was the source. Someone here was running one.

I use a NF FC-2 to shoot service rifle last year. I did not turn the knob at all but service rifle is KD so it is no big deal. The FC-2 is designed nicely to match the ballistic of heavy 223 bullets.

If my milk and butter is beyond 300m, I will get a mildot because range estimation and seeing the target is becoming a much bigger deal, and most likely a 4X is not good enough. For that reason I bought the Leupold MRT MK4 SPR - still compact enough but it is more precise than the NF FC-2 reticle.

I've got both the Leupold 1.5-5 and the Nightforce 2.5-10. I put the Leupy on my Classic Green Carbine, but then replaced it with the Nightforce once I discovered I was able to hit with it out to 700. Then I put the Leupy on my 18.5 P&D Norcy M-14. I like the Leupy's reticle better for CQB, since my Nightforce is a mildot. I can't tell the difference in quality though the Nightforce is certainly the more heavily built of the two and it comes with a bunch of reticle options including some that are pretty good for CQB if that's your leaning.

For 100m SR applications I'll dial down to 3 or 4, 200 snaps and rapids I'll dial to 5-6 and beyond that is 10 (actually 9.5). I dial up for elevation only and hold off for wind. I only run the mildot in the 4 NF scopes I have, and find the FC-2 cluttered.
 
i dont know if anyone's heard of Valdada Optics? i read a positive review in a mag for it a while back.

I've got a Leupold Mk4 1.5 -5 and love it on my AR. I shoot it out to three hundered and find that once I have a load I like I can set the scope and do quite well offhand.

I also just put an 3x Magnifier behind my Eotech and found that with a little playing ti works quite well out to 300m.
 
I'm interested in hearing more about the new version of the Accupoint coming out in the new year when it becomes available. Apparently, it's closer to 1-4 and they have some new reticle designs for it.

I picked up an older IOR 1-4x with the original CQB reticle that has mils instead of the new "improved CQB 5.56" reticle for the exact reason that you prescribed. I can determine my elevations myself instead of aiming off in between markings because I'm using a different barrel length or ammo that the reticle was designed for. However, in reality the difference that you'd have to aim off may be relatively minor, or even not neccessary depending on your application. You will have to spend a couple of bucks on ammo to determine your elevations, but this would be neccessary with any optic, at least to confirm.

It is big though, believe the IOR is the largest 1-4x scope out there, but it's also built like a tank so I'm not worried about it being subjected to a little abuse.

yeah I have one as well, I find the BDC is good enough, I use it with a 10.5 barrel. The scope is heavy- but extremely solid.

Mine with IOR mounted.
