1-4x power scoped AR zero

Based on all the documentation that already exists with the AR15 zero and its sight height over bore, I always stick to 50/200 for my zero. Red dot or magnification it doesnt change for me but saying that, everyone has their preference.

Pretty much this...then know your holdovers and you are good to go at any distance

My Vortex Strike Eagle with the BDC reticle 1-6x24 manual states zero at 50. The 5.56 is pretty flat from 50-200, longer distances use the holdovers.

Depends on what you're going to use the rifle on and also on your reticle. If you need to hit small targets (say 1-2 moa) a 50/200 zero means that you need to know your hold-under at short ranges, and your holdover at intermediate (100 yards) and longer distances (over 200 yards).

By contrast a 100 yard zero would mean just knowing your holdovers at shorter and longer distances.

If you're shooting for "combat effectiveness" 50/200 will put you largely in the zone from point-blank to 250ish yards.

I run a 25 yard zero.
