I have a Norinco HP9 with a break threaded on the muzzle, and I want to fit an extra 3" shell in the tube. From the front of the factory mag cap to flush with the muzzle I have 4 1/8" of room. If I remember correctly it was tight but not a problem getting 4 X 3" shells in when it was new, but I just tried to load it with 3" shells today, and I can't quite get the 4th in.

If I installed a +1 extension I would only be able to get an extra 2 3/4 in, not an extra 3" - correct? I think a +2 extension would stick past my muzzle, so is there a +1.5 extension? Or would it work if I installed a +1 and trimmed the follower shorter or replaced it? I also see on Tactical Ordnance's price list that they have custom length extensions; could they make me an extension to it this need?

Thanks all!

In a factory magazine tube you should be able to insert four 3" shells.

I don't understand how the muzzle brake installed on the muzzzle of the gun has anything to do with the content of the magazine tube.

Something else is wrong. Did you replace the factory spring with an extra power one somewhere along the line?

Maybe your mag spring is binding in the tube somehow.

The muzzle break has nothing to do with factory tube capacity, but it makes the barrel roughly 3" longer, so I can install a longer tube extension than I would be able to with the factory barrel length.

I don't really know why I can't get 4 3" shells in, everything works fine except for whatever is holding me back the last 1/2". I have had it apart a dozen times and can't figure it out. All the parts in the tube are factory.

But what about the tube extension?

Check it this way..... Remove barrel, mag sring and follower. Drop 4 of your 3" shells into the magazine tube. Drop in the follower. Look at where it ends up. You should be able to see what is happening now.

Actually, with a one round extension, you should be able to fit another 3" shell.

Factory magazine tubes are calculated to fit four 3" shells without any extension installed. At least Remington 870s do.

You are correct, a two round extension will stick out past your barrel a bit less than 2 inches.

There is no such animal as a 1 1/2 round extension.

Thanks easy...

I wonder if Tactical Ordnance could make a custom length one, because a +1.5 (if it could be made) would give me the choice of either another 3" or 2 more 2.75"

Absolutely. I've heard of custom lengths being made before, usually cut down versions from existing extentions. Otherwise one can be made from scratch on a lathe.

I don't know how TacOrd is set up to do so, or if he finds it worth doing, but I'm sure he'd be well able to.
