Well I just got my LTATT today so I went to the range and finally got a chance to shoot my GP100 and my new P220. I'm sure some want pics, but ifyou knew how I shoot pistol you'll see it really doesn't matter if I post pics or not. LOL
SIG P220 Elite stainless.
The good:
- Worked flawlessly in the cold when greased with white lithium grease.
- The gun fits great in my hands and .45 is a great feeling round.
- The trigger is excellent. Very tight with a nice light crisp single action.
- The double action is servicable
- The 8 and 10 rnd mags all fed flawlessly.
- 45 makes a nice big hole.
The bad:
I can't shoot worth a damn.
- W/ Winchester 185gr BRB at 25 yards I'm on 8.5X11" paper but that is it.
- At 50 yards, 3 in 10 are on paper. I'm going to have to work on my technique. Also at 50 yards the .45 starts to drop a lot. I'm going to need a lot of practice. Indoor ranges made me feel like I knew what I was doing, outside in 10kph wind and -10 maybe not so much.
- It took me a while to figure out how to shoot with the sig night sights. the bullet lands at 25 yards, right where the middle dot is, not right on top of it like I'm used to. I don't know how I feel yet about covering my target with my sights. I've always preferred having adjustable sights hit right at the top of the centre post. I guess it will take some getting used to.
GP100:
The GP 100 made me feel like a pro again. Shooting .38 and .357 I'm getting respectable (for a newb) groups at 25 yards ( all in a 6"circle) and all on paper at 50 yards.
I took 4 potshots at the 200 yard gong and one of them hit it! I was sooo proud of myself. While the GP100 has smaller grips that aren't as comfortable in my hands as the P220, I really felt like I could shoot like a champ. It was more natural for me. As an added bonus, I never had to go scrounging for my brass out of the revolver. I love the GP 100 so much, that I'm keeping an identical blued version I had on the EE. They are just too nice a gun to sell.
In the end I'm keeping all three. But I can now say that I'm a GP100 addict. Just saying the numbers .357 give me a chubb now. I've got a gut feeling that I'll end up buying other as well. Long live the GP 100!
If guns were women, the SIG is the hot chick you date for a bit and have a steamy affair before she dumps you for a richer man, while the GP100 is the girl you fall in love with, marry and make babies with!
