1 Hunting Gun

I'm a big .270win fan... Winchester model 70 in a pre 64 action or a Ruger m77.... Mags get lost in the bush and cost more money...
Just my 2cents...
Good luck

I don't think you mentioned what type of terrain would be hunted?

Something in 7x57 (scope 2.5-8x32) if hunting outside of Southern Ontario. If shots are within 200yds a 35 Remington would be an outstanding choice with a 1.5 - 5 or 1.75 - 6x scope. 9.3x62 good round also. 270 Win (same scope) if in Southern Ontario.

In my opinion $2000 is a pretty hefty price for a single bare rifle. For that kind of money you can buy two or three quality used rifles. By and large they don't usually wear out but they can be ruined through neglect and abuse. There is no such thing as the "ideal rifle" but there are quite a few that are very versatile. For starters you can't go wrong with a .30/06 in my opinion. As far as make and model go it depends on what you like not what someone else likes. Handle several different models that appeal to you, stay away from the budget rifles and focus on quality.

With your $1k-$2k budget, take your pick. Personally I would go for a good quality used rifle in a desired caliber like 270 or 30/06. Not a big fan of SOME of the new stuff.
Put quality optics on it and still have some cash left for other possible guns. You may not know it now, but there will be more guns. You can't stop at one. You will see!!!!

Royzo has a good point. Do not skimp on optics. And as the TV food commercial says "you won't be able to stop at just one!"

You have asked a question which will result in no definitive answer, as it is to open to personal opinion. For sure a 30-06 will handle all the bear and deer you can put in front of it. What brand and action of gun for which it is chambered will be up to what type of country your hunting in and your personal preference.

I just picked up a Steyr ProHunter .270 from Prophet River and I'm sure Clay can bring in what you need if they don't have it stocked. I haven't hunted with it, I have been using an old Parker Hale 7mm MAG for my moose/bear/deer needs. Make sure you buy good glass. Save money for a range finder or binoculars as well.

My suggestion of a stainless Tikka T3 Lite also includes lightweight low Talley scope rings and a quality Leupold VX3 40mm objective lense scope for that $1000 - $2000 budget.

They come with detachable mags and if you don't like the black synthetic stock get it painted or Cerakoted and yuo will still be in your budget.

His budget is just for the gun. Sling, ammo, case, rings and scope will add up to about the price of the rifle. I like sakos. There are some great deals on the ee right now in versatile calibers.
