I am thinking of working up a load that will be THE hunting load for my .270 win with Barnes TSX or TTSX. This will be my go-to load for mostly deer & black bear, and possibly moose and elk in the near future. I want to stick with one load and one trajectory so I am confident that within my limits it's critter down! :D I'm trying to decide between either the 130's or 140's. Assuming equal accuracy out of a given rifle, which of the 4 combinations would you pick? What's worked for you so far? Enquiring insomniacs want to know! :yingyang:

E: It's a Savage 110 that does about 3/4" with 130gr Sierra Gamekings or Prohunters and bout 1" with 130gr partitions and IMR 4350.

Just a thought, but if you think you might use it on moose and elk, I would lean towards the 140's. All else being equal, meaning you get roughly the same accuracy. The heavier bullet should prove to be the more versatile.

Now you have 1 in 2 odds.

Again, just my 2 cents.

Agreed.

If moose and elk may be the game, the heaviest bullet is what you want. I would actually find a 150 grain bullet for that job. In fact, my .270 load that is my elk and moose load is a 150 grain Partition load that shoots better than 1MOA. I often wonder why I still bother to experiment occasionally.

Yep. Heavy bullets. Mind you, you don't need a premium bullet. Barnes bullets ain't cheap and you need their data.

When I had a 270 win 140 grain hornadys worked real well in my rifle. They are a trade off between 130 and 150 grain bullets. Sort of like 165 gr in 308.

I would load the 130 grain TSX over a full case of H4831sc with a federal magnum primer and then go hunt everything on your list.
It will out penetrate a 150 grain partition.
