Just wondering if 55gr FMJ will function well in 1 in 7 twist barrel. I have heard they aren't great and you should shoot 62 gr or heavier. I am just wondering because I should be getting my tavor soon and I think they have 1 in 7 twist barrels. I would appreciate your opinions.

I put 55's through my LMT MRP (1/7 18"bbl) and it shoots them just fine!
My swiss arms CQB also has a 1/7 twist and it shoots 55's great with no problems .

Well i have 1500 of 55 gr and 1500 of 62 gr. So I guess I will have to see. I just hope it doesn't need the heavier ones cause they cost more no to mention they are way harder to find than 55 gr :(

You may be getting better results though. Try the lighter bullets and see if they work, if not, go heavier/try different brands, etc. Only costs a box to see your results.
"only cost a box" :) Ammo prices seem to be going up as fast as gas.I bought about 8000 55gr,2000 62gr and 2000 68gr :) After that I am reloading and presently stocking up on components also.If I wait till the Tavor comes to buy ammo I won't be able to afford any :)

I doubt it really matters - that 6MOA dot and the blue tinted lense will give you more imprecision than the ammo itself. Wait til the time you can toss the Mepro 21 into the trash bin, I doubt this grouping and ammo thing will really make a difference. Just shoot what you can buy and enjoy.

I already bought a elcan Spector DR for the tavor and if I have issues with eye relief then I will just put the spector DR on my XCR. So I was just wondering if it will affect my accuracy very much. If I can put my shots in a 1 inch circle at 100 yards I will be happy.

Out of the 1:7 you will be able to shoot the 55 Gr no problem the thing is - what is your accuracy like?

Will 55 Gr shoot from 1:7 = Yes
Will it be very accurate at real distance = probably not
Will a 1:7 twist be more accurate with 62+ Gr Yes

If you are < 100 M shooter just use the 55Gr......

I whole heartedly dispute that. If you are talking about wind bucking ability then yes the heavier bullet with the better ballistic coefficient will be more accurate at longer distance.

If you are talking pure accuracy and the effect of a 1/7 barrel being unable to shoot lighter bullets, then you are wrong. My 1/7 AR loves 52 SMK's. If it’s windy, they start to drift out past 100 yards. Again that has nothing to do with the inherent accuracy of the bullet and twist, just the wind.

Again each rifle is different.

Pick up John Feamster’s book "Black Magic" for more on the subject.
