any info on the enfield 1 / 3 that was converted to 7.62 nato?
would like to do some readin, and maybe even find a gun. any help would be apreciated

I had one till I sold it to a fellow collector recently. Niceley made, but hte painted finish one often finds is horrible. Not even as good as suncorite.

For the record, the 2A/2A1 series SMLEs in 7.62 NATO are NOT converted rifles. They are newly made in the 60's (and beyond) with better modern steel (chrome-vanadium alloyed) and are heat treated differently than the older SMLE.

And just for fun, I'll point out that the rifle pictured on the Enfield site is the rifle I used to own. :) They are UNCOMMON in Canada to say the least. Much more common in the US.

DO NOT convert a .303 No.1 action to 7.62 unless you have a death wish.

Here's mine
A 2A1 '68 , blued type finish and a rounded nose cap
All matching numbers including the mag , Luan mahogany stocks

Is that what that wood is? I installed a nos ishy stock on a smle & when I sanded it, it smelled like a cigar box. Nice looking wood when oiled.

7.62 Enfield

I have two and I like them. The barrels are chromed, the sights are set at a maximum of 800 meters. The bottom of the magazine uses the FN floor plate, the stock has an FN butt plate, and the receiver is designed to take the FN stripper clip. One of mine has been re-parkerized, and has new wood, it looks like it came out of the box. The collectors that passed them up when they were cheap missed out on a great firearm. I saw one advertised recently for $700.

My Ishapore 2A was made in 1965. I found a brand new No. 1 Mk III stock and hand guard set for it and they fit perfectly. My stock was OK and is still original. I could not stand the stamped sling swivels and replaced them with the ones from the No. 1 Mik III along with the nose cap.

My Ishapore is a fine looking specimen and goes very well with my Ishapore-made Pattern 1944 "Jungle" bayonet (a cutdown Pattern 1907).
